‘The Walking Dead: Aftermath’ Unleashes Rick and Daryl in New Survival Game
Rick Grimes, Michonne and Daryl Dixon are heading back into the walker apocalypse as AMC Global Media and Ares Interactive prepare to launch The Walking Dead: Aftermath, a new free-to-play roguelite game based on the long-running television franchise.

Pre-registration for the title opened today ahead of its planned Summer 2026 release on the App Store and Google Play, with additional platforms due to be announced later. Players who register before launch will receive bonus in-game rewards including fan-favourite survivor T-Dog, a rare gear item and a cache of survival supplies.
Developed by Swift Games, the studio behind mobile title Heroes vs. Hordes, The Walking Dead: Aftermath places players inside a constantly shifting survival system built around roguelite mechanics. According to the developers, no two runs are designed to play out the same way, with dynamic enemy spawns, randomised upgrades and evolving environmental conditions shaping each mission.
The game sends players through recognisable locations from AMC’s television universe, including Hershel’s Farm, Woodbury, Terminus and Alexandria. During combat runs, players level up in real time, choosing from rotating ability upgrades while fighting walkers, hostile survivor factions and larger boss encounters.
Outside the action, the title also introduces a strategic base-building system where survivors can construct defensive structures, manage resources and strengthen relationships between characters. Assigning survivors to different camp roles unlocks progression bonuses and production benefits intended to improve long-term survival. The project marks the first roguelite game officially set within AMC’s version of The Walking Dead, which originally premiered in 2010 and became one of the defining horror television successes of the last two decades. Based on the comic series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, the franchise expanded far beyond its original show through spin-offs including Fear the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live.

Ares Interactive says the game will operate with an ongoing live-service structure featuring regular content updates, new story chapters, additional survivors and limited-time events after launch.
Players interested in joining before launch can now pre-register through Apple and Google storefronts, while AMC and Ares Interactive have also launched official social media and Discord channels dedicated to updates surrounding the game.
The Walking Dead: Aftermath is scheduled to launch in Summer 2026.
