‘The Devil’s Candy’ Returns With Limited Edition 4K Box Set

Nearly a decade after its original release, The Devil’s Candy is set for a new home entertainment run, with Second Sight Films confirming a Limited Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray box set arriving on 25 May 2026.

Directed by Australian filmmaker Sean Byrne, the film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 before receiving a wider release in 2017 through IFC Midnight. It marked Byrne’s second feature following The Loved Ones, which won the People’s Choice Award in the Midnight Madness strand at TIFF, and came ahead of his more recent project Dangerous Animals, which screened at Cannes in 2025.

The Devil’s Candy centres on struggling artist Jesse Hellman, played by Ethan Embry, who relocates with his wife Astrid, portrayed by Shiri Appleby, and their daughter Zooey to a rural home. What begins as a fresh start quickly shifts as Jesse starts experiencing disturbing visions that influence both his artwork and behaviour. The cast also includes Pruitt Taylor Vince as Ray Smilie, alongside Kiara Glasco, Tony Amendola and Leland Orser.

On release, the film drew largely positive responses from critics. It currently holds a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers noting its mix of heavy metal influences and supernatural horror elements.

The new collector’s edition will include a two-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray set alongside a range of additional material. Among the features are interviews with cast and crew, an audio commentary with Byrne, and a 120-page book containing newly commissioned essays. The restoration brings the film to 4K for the first time in the UK, adding to Second Sight’s ongoing catalogue of genre releases.

Starring Embry, who previously appeared in Empire Records and Can’t Hardly Wait, and Appleby, known for her work on UnREAL and Roswell, the film has remained a consistent point of reference within Byrne’s body of work.
