‘The Remedy’ Heads to SXSW London with First Teaser Revealed

A new psychological horror from director Alex Kahuam is set to make its debut in London this summer, with The Remedy confirmed for its world premiere at SXSW London on 3 June, followed by an encore screening on 6 June.

The project marks Kahuam’s latest feature after Failure! and Forgiveness, and arrives with a first teaser offering an early look at the film’s central premise. The story follows Jason, played by Timothy Granaderos, a man caring for his seriously ill mother while struggling with exhaustion and increasingly vivid nightmares. As his mental state begins to deteriorate, those visions start to overlap with reality, placing him in conflict with his sister Rachel, portrayed by London Thor, who believes something more sinister is at work inside the family home.

The cast also includes Doug Jones, known for his collaborations with Guillermo del Toro including The Shape of Water, alongside Jenny O’Hara and Chris Mulkey. Production comes from Kahuam Films, Sparta Productions and Breakwall Pictures, with Film Seekers handling international sales.

According to the synopsis, Jason’s decision to pursue an obscure treatment for his mother leads to a shift in her condition, but is followed by a series of unsettling events within the house. As tensions rise between the siblings and unexplained occurrences escalate, the situation moves beyond medical explanation, forcing the characters to confront what may have been unleashed.

Kahuam confirmed the SXSW London selection alongside the teaser launch, noting the significance of premiering the film within the festival’s inaugural London edition. Writer and producer Daniel Kuhlman also acknowledged the platform as an opportunity to introduce the project to both audiences and industry buyers.

SXSW London will host a range of international premieres as part of its programme, positioning The Remedy among a slate of new genre titles debuting in the UK capital. The festival runs in early June, with screenings taking place across central London venues.
