Kirsten Dunst Joins ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ With Sydney Sweeney
Lionsgate has confirmed that Kirsten Dunst will star alongside Sydney Sweeney in The Housemaid’s Secret, the forthcoming sequel to the studio’s box office success The Housemaid, which generated close to $400 million worldwide.

Dunst, an Academy Award nominee for her performance in The Power of the Dog, joins a returning creative team led by director Paul Feig. Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine is also back to adapt the follow-up from Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, continuing the story of Millie, played by Sweeney. Michele Morrone is set to reprise his role as Enzo.
The sequel follows Millie as she takes on a new position working for a woman she is never permitted to meet. The job quickly becomes complicated as the mystery surrounding a locked door begins to reveal further secrets, building on the premise established in the original film.
Production remains with the same core partners behind the first instalment. Todd Lieberman produces through Hidden Pictures, while Feig and Laura Fischer return under their Pretty Dangerous Pictures banner. Sweeney is also producing via Fifty-Fifty Films. Executive producers include Carly Elter and Alex Young for Hidden Pictures, with Kaylee McGregor co-producing.

Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, described Dunst’s casting as a significant addition to the project, noting her established career across a range of roles. The pairing with Sweeney brings together two performers with recent high-profile credits, as the sequel builds on the commercial momentum of its predecessor.
Released in December 2025, The Housemaid introduced audiences to Millie Calloway, a woman with a criminal past who becomes entangled in the volatile dynamics of a wealthy household. Directed by Feig, the film starred Sweeney alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, with its theatrical run followed by strong performance across digital platforms.
Dunst’s upcoming slate includes a role in the sequel to A Minecraft Movie, as well as The Entertainment System Is Down from director Ruben Östlund. Her recent screen appearances include Civil War and Roofman.
The announcement of The Housemaid’s Secret continues Lionsgate’s expansion of the property, with development moving forward under the same creative leadership that delivered the first film’s commercial results. Further casting and production details are expected to follow as the project progresses.
