‘Spoiling You’ Brings ASMR Horror To Romford World Premiere

The official poster has been unveiled for Spoiling You, a new British psychological horror feature that explores digital intimacy and isolation through the unsettling lens of ASMR culture. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Megan Tremethick and will receive its world premiere at the Romford Horror Film Festival later this month.

Following an exclusive first reveal with Rue Morgue, the newly released poster offers an early visual signal of the film’s disquieting tone. Designed by Tremethick herself, with artwork by Ida Bagus Indra and typography by Jedalias Mendez, the image reflects the film’s fixation on manufactured comfort and the subtle threat embedded within curated online personas.

Spoiling You centres on Drew, a socially isolated insomniac who finds relief from loneliness through the videos of Miss Mutter, an ASMR-style online creator whose content promises reassurance, attention and emotional safety. Drew’s attachment deepens when he wins a competition to meet her in person, prompting a journey driven by devotion that overrides caution. As the boundary between performance and reality erodes, the film examines how intimacy mediated through screens can distort perception and desire.

The project is co-written by Tremethick and Lawrie Brewster, with Tremethick also directing and appearing on screen as Miss Mutter. The cast includes Laurence R Harvey, Stephen Kerr and Tremethick, with Harvey continuing a body of work that has made him a recognisable figure within contemporary genre cinema. Production was supported by a British horror studio closely associated with independent and filmmaker-driven projects.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese horror and extreme Asian cinema, including Takashi Miike’s Audition, the film positions itself within a tradition of psychological unease rather than spectacle. Its focus on parasocial relationships and the comfort economy places modern online behaviour at the centre of its horror framework.

The world premiere is scheduled for Saturday 21 February at 7.00 pm at the Romford Horror Film Festival, hosted at the Lumiere Cinema in Romford, London. The festival, which runs from 19 to 22 February across three screens, has built a reputation for showcasing independent genre work alongside restored classics, with an emphasis on emerging voices and uncompromising filmmaking.

For Tremethick, Spoiling You follows a series of short films and acting roles that have earned attention across genre press, with this feature-length debut positioning her firmly behind the camera while maintaining a presence in front of it.

We’ll share more info on the film as it comes.
