Glowflare Horror Film Festival is bringing two days of independent genre cinema to Parkway Cinemas in Beverley this weekend, with its 2026 edition opening today alongside a newly announced awards slate and confirmation that the festival has joined the Film Festival Alliance. Running across 5 and 6 September, this year’s programme features a broad mix of feature-length and short-form horror, with the festival continuing its focus on independent filmmakers and emerging creative voices working across the genre. The feature selection includes A Ghost at Gilmore House, Archai, Jimmy, Mr. Whispers, Southern Nightmare, Spoiling You, The Caretaker, The House on Lidderman Street, The Shug and Virus Detected. A sizeable shorts programme will screen alongside them, with titles including A Night at Morgrave Manor, Arcana, Crèche & Burn, Haunted Henry, Lest We Forget, Marrow, Match, Olga, Painted Devil, Pleased to Kill You, Prey Switch, Rear Road, The Black Dog, The Rabbit, The Severing, Undying Love and Voodoo Party. The festival has also revealed its 2026 award nominations, with Southern Nightmare leading the field on 14 nominations, followed closely by Spoiling You with 13 and Jimmy with 12. Olga has picked up 11, while A Ghost at Gilmore House has eight. The Best Feature Film category includes A Ghost at Gilmore House, Jimmy, Mr. Whispers, Southern Nightmare, Spoiling You and The Shug, while the Best Short Film nominees include A Night at Morgrave Manor, Lest We Forget, Olga, Pleased to Kill You, Rear Road and Surprise!. Performers recognised across the acting categories include Lyndsey Craine for A Ghost at Gilmore House, Charlie Chan Dagelet for Jimmy, Jasmine Box for Olga, Faith McCoy for Southern Nightmare, Megan Tremethick for Spoiling You and Dodie Finamore for Surprise!. Laurence R. Harvey is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for Spoiling You. Alongside the festival programme, Glowflare has confirmed its acceptance into the Film Festival Alliance, an international organisation representing festivals committed to professional standards, filmmaker relationships, accessibility, inclusion and support for independent cinema. Festival Director Daniel Smales described the recognition as “an incredibly proud moment”, adding that the event was created to give independent horror filmmakers “a supportive place to share their stories”. “Horror filmmaking has always been driven by imagination, experimentation and filmmakers willing to take creative risks,” Smales said. The move into the Film Festival Alliance arrives as Glowflare continues to build its identity around lower-budget and independently produced genre cinema, with award categories extending beyond the usual acting and directing prizes into areas including practical and CGI effects, creature design, kill scenes and gore. There are also dedicated awards for films made for £50,000 or less and £1,000 or less, reinforcing the festival’s emphasis on recognising creative achievement across very different production scales. For horror fans in Yorkshire, the timing could hardly be better. Glowflare’s 2026 edition arrives as the autumn festival season begins to gather pace, offering a weekend built around new voices, home-grown filmmaking and the kind of genre work that rarely gets a chance to play on the big screen.
