‘One Last Adventure’ Takes Fans Inside the Final Days of ‘Stranger Things’

With Stranger Things reaching the end of its decade-long run, Netflix is offering viewers a chance to step behind the camera with One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a feature-length documentary set to premiere on the platform on 12 January. The film arrives as the series’ final season continues to dominate conversation following its staggered release across late November, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

Directed by Martina Radwan, the documentary follows the cast and creative team through the production of the fifth and final season, charting the scale of the shoot and the emotional weight of closing out one of streaming’s most influential shows. Rather than focusing solely on spectacle, the film is positioned as a detailed record of process, collaboration and endurance across a year spent on set.

The Duffer Brothers, who created the series and have overseen it since its 2016 debut, said the project was inspired by the kind of behind-the-scenes filmmaking that once accompanied major home entertainment releases. In a joint statement, they described the documentary as an attempt to preserve a form of production storytelling that has become increasingly rare in the streaming era, while also capturing the pressures and realities of mounting a production on this scale.

Radwan, whose previous work spans documentary and music filmmaking, was embedded with the production throughout the shoot. She noted that the access extended across departments, from long-standing collaborators to cast members who have grown up alongside the show. The resulting film tracks the final chapter from early preparations through to the closing days on set, offering a chronological account of how Stranger Things 5 came together.

Produced by Angus Wall, Terry Leonard and Kent Kubena under the MakeMake banner, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 is planned as a companion piece to the series itself. It follows a period in which the show expanded well beyond television, spawning stage productions, immersive experiences and spin-off projects, while remaining one of the most-watched titles in Netflix’s history.

The documentary lands at a moment when interest in the franchise is at its peak. The final season, set in the autumn of 1987, brings the story back to Hawkins as the central characters regroup to confront Vecna amid a town under military quarantine. Returning cast members include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and Sadie Sink, alongside new additions such as Linda Hamilton.

For fans and industry watchers, One Last Adventure serves both as a farewell and as a record of how a global hit is made. As Stranger Things signs off, the documentary offers context to the effort behind the phenomenon and a final look at the people who shaped it.
