‘Evidence of the Boogeyman’ Launches on Roku

The found footage subgenre is getting a fresh addition this winter with the release of Evidence of the Boogeyman, now streaming on Roku as it prepares to expand to additional digital platforms in the coming weeks. The film arrives via Breaking Glass Pictures and marks the third instalment in filmmaker Calvin Morie McCarthy’s ongoing Boogeyman series.

Evidence of the Boogeyman

Written, directed by and starring McCarthy, Evidence of the Boogeyman shifts its focus to a small independent documentary crew attempting to capture paranormal activity inside a rural farmhouse with a violent and unsettling history. What begins as a modest ghost-hunting project gradually unravels as the filmmakers document evidence that suggests the legend at the centre of their investigation may be rooted in reality. The story unfolds through recovered footage, charting the crew’s final night as events spiral beyond their control.

The project continues McCarthy’s interest in blending low-budget filmmaking aesthetics with mythology-driven horror, leaning heavily on handheld camerawork and in-the-moment performances to ground the escalating chaos. The cast includes Jason Brooks, Naomi Mechem-Miller, Tim Coyle, Erik Skybak, Jim Spence and Airisa Durand, with McCarthy also producing alongside Richard Wolff. Coyle shares screenplay duties with McCarthy, adding to a collaborative approach that has shaped the wider series.

While firmly positioned within the found footage tradition, the film places particular emphasis on the process of filmmaking itself, following a crew as they negotiate technical limitations, personal tensions and growing unease inside an isolated location. The farmhouse setting becomes a pressure cooker, with the documentary/found footage format providing both a narrative framework and a visual constraint that drives the film’s pacing.

Breaking Glass Pictures continues its recent run of genre releases with the film, aligning with the distributor’s wider strategy of supporting independent horror and filmmaker-led projects. Founded in 2009, the company has built a catalogue that spans narrative features and documentaries, often prioritising distinctive voices and unconventional approaches.

For viewers familiar with the earlier entries in the Boogeyman series, Evidence of the Boogeyman extends the mythology while shifting perspective, offering a new scenario rather than a direct continuation of previous storylines.

Following its debut on Roku, the film is expected to reach further major digital platforms as the new year unfolds, broadening its availability to audiences seeking out independent horror releases during the winter season.
