Arnie Eyes ‘Predator’ Comeback as Talks Intensify for Dutch’s Return
Arnold Schwarzenegger could soon be heading back into the jungle. With Predator: Badlands now in cinemas, comments from both director Dan Trachtenberg and producer Ben Rosenblatt indicate that discussions are formally underway for Schwarzenegger to reprise his famous role as Dutch for the first time since John McTiernan’s 1987 classic.

The prospect has been quietly brewing for months. Hulu’s recent re-release of Predator: Killer of Killers included an extended ending that featured a brief appearance from Dutch, immediately fuelling speculation about where the franchise might head next. While Badlands focuses on a new story set on a distant planet, the renewed interest in Schwarzenegger’s character has prompted a fresh wave of behind-the-scenes movement.
Speaking to Empire, Trachtenberg confirmed that he has met with the actor to explore ideas. He recalled a conversation in which Schwarzenegger joked about the line fans most frequently shout at him, highlighting the enduring cultural footprint of the franchise. Trachtenberg also hinted at avenues for continuing Dutch’s story, including flashbacks or further exploration of the mythology surrounding his survival. He noted that the canon has expanded significantly with Prey, Killer of Killers and now Badlands, opening the door to multiple timelines and new interpretations of the central conflict between humans and the iconic extraterrestrial hunters.

At the Badlands premiere, Rosenblatt added further fuel to the excitement, explaining that Schwarzenegger has already met Trachtenberg several times. According to the producer, the actor has shown enthusiasm for the direction the franchise has taken in recent years, particularly its blend of fresh characters and respectful nods to the origins of the series. Rosenblatt described Dutch’s return as the holy grail of future instalments, and emphasised that any next steps will depend on audience response to Badlands and the studio’s long-term planning for the property.
Schwarzenegger’s involvement would represent a major shift for the franchise, which has spent the past decade reinventing itself through standalone stories rather than revisiting legacy characters. His potential return also aligns with the industry’s broader trend of modern sequels reconnecting with foundational screen icons. For fans, the possibility of seeing Dutch share the screen with newer protagonists, such as Amber Midthunder’s Naru, offers a tantalising sense of continuity.
For now, the conversations appear to be in early but promising stages. Trachtenberg has made clear that he sees ample opportunities for expanding the lore, and Rosenblatt’s public comments underscore a genuine appetite to bring Schwarzenegger back should the timing and creative direction align. With Predator: Badlands newly released and the franchise’s momentum surging, the foundations are in place for Dutch to step out of cryo and back into the fight.
