Netflix Drops Opening Scene From ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5
Netflix has revealed the opening five minutes of Stranger Things 5 (which you can watch below), offering fans a tantalising glimpse of the long-awaited final chapter in its global hit series. The footage launches ahead of the show’s three-part release, beginning with Volume 1 on 27 November, followed by Volume 2 on Boxing Day and concluding with The Finale on New Year’s Day.

Set in the autumn of 1987, the new season picks up in the aftermath of the cataclysmic events that tore open the Rifts beneath Hawkins. The town, now under military quarantine, has become a ghostly reflection of itself, scarred by both physical and emotional destruction. Eleven, once seen as a saviour, is again forced into hiding as the government intensifies its pursuit of her, while the rest of the group unites around one mission: finding and destroying Vecna before his next attack.
The sneak preview immediately sets the tone for a darker, more urgent season. Familiar faces return amid chaos, with haunting glimpses of Hawkins’ ruined streets and a sense that the clock is running out. Fans will recognise the signature visual flair and suspenseful build-up that have defined the Duffer Brothers’ creation, but the footage hints at a shift toward something even more apocalyptic.
Stranger Things 5 will reunite the core cast led by Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp. Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke are also back, alongside Priah Ferguson and Brett Gelman. Returning antagonist Jamie Campbell Bower reprises his role as Vecna, with new cast additions including Amybeth McNulty, Linda Hamilton, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux.

The show, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, remains one of Netflix’s most celebrated and influential productions. Since its 2016 debut, it has drawn more than 140 million views for its fourth season alone and won over 70 major awards globally. Its mix of science fiction, supernatural horror and 1980s nostalgia helped redefine genre television, inspiring a wave of imitators and securing its place as a pop culture landmark.
The final season’s release strategy mirrors the format used for Stranger Things 4, dividing its eight episodes into two main volumes before closing with a standalone finale. The Duffer Brothers have described this final stretch as their most ambitious yet, bringing every surviving character together for one ultimate showdown.
Produced by Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment, Stranger Things 5 is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. With each volume dropping globally at 1am GMT, anticipation is already mounting for the conclusion of one of streaming’s most successful series.

Netflix continues to expand the Stranger Things universe beyond the main show, with projects including Stranger Things: The First Shadow, an award-winning stage prequel, and the upcoming animated series Tales From ’85.
As the countdown begins to Hawkins’ last stand, the newly released footage has reignited excitement for what promises to be a thrilling and emotional farewell to the world of the Upside Down.
Stranger Things 5 premieres on Netflix from 27 November 2025. If you can’t wait til then to get a taste, watch the first 5 minutes below!
