‘Don’t Let the Cat Out’ Exclusive Clip Reveals Dark Comedy and Carnage
Ahead of its FrightFest premiere next week, Don’t Let the Cat Out has offered a taste of its bizarre and bloody world with an exclusive clip. The footage introduces audiences to the unsettling tone of Tim Cruz’s latest feature, where grief, absurdity and horror collide in a Halloween house-sitting job gone disastrously wrong.

The clip gives a short taste of a scene which follows Charlie, played by Anthony Del Negro, as he navigates an opulent but eerily cat-obsessed mansion. What begins with the innocuous sound of a bell soon spirals into paranoia, with every room concealing another feline-themed oddity. That creeping unease tips into outright panic when an unexpected figure crashes the evening, setting the tone for the violent, surreal events to come.

While the clip hints at moments of camp and humour, it also captures the tightly wound tension that runs through Cruz’s story. Loosely inspired by Del Negro’s own experiences as a house sitter, the film sees Charlie kidnapped by the mansion’s owners, Evelyn and Rodney, who intend to use his body to resurrect their dead cat. The absurdity of their plan is matched only by their devotion, with Cerina Vincent and Jordan James Smith playing the couple as both charismatic and uncomfortably unhinged.
Cruz, who made a strong impression with last year’s FrightFest hit Ladybug, has described the film as an exploration of loss and the strange ways people process grief. The premise allows for a blend of grotesque spectacle and emotional resonance, pairing bizarre rituals with moments of vulnerability. Shot over 16 nights in Louisville, Kentucky, the production embraces practical effects and stylised set pieces to heighten its blend of horror and dark comedy.

The cast also includes Edy Ganem and Sterling Sulieman, with Vincent’s performance as Evelyn anchoring the chaos in a character whose inability to accept loss drives the film’s most outrageous turns. For FrightFest audiences, the exclusive clip offers just enough of the cat-and-mouse tension to intrigue without revealing the full extent of the mayhem.
Don’t Let the Cat Out screens on Thursday 21 August at The Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. For information on this film, the festival and to get tickets, visit: frightfest.co.uk
