Tyriq Withers and Marlon Wayans Clash in Chilling Horror ‘Him’
Jordan Peele is back in the producer’s chair with Him, a sports horror film that blends psychological unease with the brutal pursuit of greatness. Directed by Justin Tipping and written by Tipping alongside Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the film hits US cinemas on 19 September and UK screens on 3 October 2025. It features a dramatic turn from Marlon Wayans as a revered but increasingly unhinged former athlete.

Him centres on Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), a young quarterback whose future is derailed by a violent attack just days before the NFL Combine. Isolated and desperate, Cam is offered salvation by his idol, Isaiah White (Wayans), a decorated football legend who invites him to train at his private compound. What begins as a second chance spirals into psychological torment, as Cam finds himself trapped under the influence of a man whose obsession with legacy blurs the line between inspiration and indoctrination.
The film represents a tonal shift for Wayans, better known for his comedic roles (including the iconic Scary Movie films), delivering a performance that leans into control, paranoia and the slow corrosion of trust. Withers, recently seen in Atlanta and I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025), leads the film with a physical and emotionally exposed performance, portraying a young man seduced by promise and destabilised by manipulation.

Set within the world of elite sports, Him uses its backdrop to explore themes of exploitation, idolatry and the cost of relentless ambition. As Cam trains under Isaiah’s increasingly cultish guidance, the boundaries of identity and agency begin to dissolve. Julia Fox co-stars as Isaiah’s wife Elsie, whose role as both supporter and passive observer adds further ambiguity to the power dynamics at play.
Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions has built its reputation on distinctive genre films that interrogate race, power and cultural mythologies. Him marks a continuation of that approach, using horror to dissect the structures that create icons and the psychological fallout they leave in their wake.

Supporting cast includes Tim Heidecker and Jim Jefferies, along with MMA fighter Maurice Greene and musicians Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack, each making their feature debut.
With plot details still tightly under wraps, Him remains one of the more enigmatic entries in Peele’s expanding horror canon. We’ll share more news as it comes.
