Lights, Camera, Execution in ‘Your Host’

Jackie Earle Haley returns to genre terror in the world premiere of Your Host at FrightFest 2025 on 22 August at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square. The film turns the familiar game show format into a grisly gauntlet as four friends discover that their celebratory retreat has become a night of deadly challenges.

The plot revolves around a birthday getaway to a luxury cabin that goes horribly awry when the group is drugged and transported to an abandoned factory rigged as a torture arena. Their captor is a masked host in an orange-velvet suit who forces them into sadistic contests in which betraying one another is the only path to survival. Academy Award nominee Jackie Earle Haley steps into the role of the deranged host, with The Stranger actor Ella-Rae Smith, Black Dog’s Jamie Flatters, David Angland and Joelle Rae rounding out the terrified participants.

Producer Seth Michaels has expressed pride in securing the FrightFest slot, saying “It’s a true honour to have our world premiere at FrightFest, a festival that has showcased some of the most iconic and trailblazing films over the decades. We hope the audience connects with Your Host in the same powerful way they’ve embraced past genre-defining works.” Michaels’ enthusiasm reflects the film’s blend of brutal thrills and dark satire, underscored by a twisted exploration of moral ambiguity.

Director DW Medoff, whose credits include I Will Never Leave You Alone and Pollen, stresses the thematic core that drove him to the project. “When I first read Joey Miller’s script for Your Host, I was immediately drawn in. It wasn’t just the sharp dialogue or the relentless pace. It gave me a raw, unapologetic framework to explore the good and bad that coexists in all of us, and the brutal fallout of selfish choices.” Medoff’s statement highlights his intent to blur the lines between victim and perpetrator, inviting the audience to question their own complicity.

Your Host 2025

Your Host premieres alongside a packed FrightFest line-up that includes world premieres, restored classics and international entries. Festival goers can expect the film’s trademark blend of graphic mayhem and psychological tension to stand out in a programme devoted to daring genre films.

Tickets for the screening on 22 August will be available this weekend via frightfest.co.uk.
