‘In Our Blood’ Brings a Chilling Mystery to FrightFest Glasgow

Pedro Kos’s debut feature In Our Blood is gearing up for its European premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest Glasgow on March 7, following a successful tour of international festivals. The psychological horror-thriller, which blends documentary-style realism with chilling genre elements, has already made waves at Fantasia Film Festival, Screamfest LA, and Festival do Rio. Now, UK audiences will have the chance to experience Kos’s haunting vision firsthand.

Starring Brittany O’Grady (The White Lotus, The Consultant) and E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man, The Exorcist: Believer), In Our Blood follows filmmaker Emily Wyland (O’Grady) as she attempts to reconnect with her estranged mother through a documentary project. When her mother vanishes without explanation, Emily and her cinematographer Danny (Bonilla) find themselves entangled in a disturbing mystery, forcing them to confront long-buried truths and the insidious forces lurking beneath the surface.

Kos, an Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker (Rebel Hearts, Lead Me Home), brings a raw and intimate approach to his first narrative feature. By capturing events through Danny’s handheld camera and Emily’s iPhone footage, the film creates an immersive, voyeuristic experience that blurs the line between fact and fiction. The setting of Las Cruces, New Mexico—known for its socio-economic struggles and proximity to the Mexican border—adds another layer of unease, grounding the film in the stark realities of addiction, displacement, and societal neglect.

“In many ways, this film is about the unseen,” Kos explained in a statement. “Not just in terms of horror, but in how we ignore the suffering around us. In Our Blood is a mystery on the surface, but at its core, it’s about complicity—how easily we look away until we’re forced to see.”

The film also boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Alanna Ubach (Euphoria, Bombshell), who plays Emily’s missing mother, Sam. Known for her ability to balance vulnerability with strength, Ubach brings a haunting presence to the film’s exploration of trauma and reckoning.

The European premiere at FrightFest Glasgow will be hosted by Paul McEvoy, with producers Stuart Fenegan and Pollyanna Cheung in attendance for a post-screening discussion. For more information and to get tickets, visit: frightfest.co.uk/2025Glasgow/
