Manchester’s Grimmfest Set to Scare: 4 Days of Frights!
Grimmfest, Manchester’s premier horror and genre film festival, is set to return to the Odeon Great Northern in Deansgate from 3rd to 6th October 2024. Celebrating its 16th edition, this year’s festival promises four days of intense thrills and unforgettable scares, showcasing the very best in contemporary genre cinema with a diverse line-up that includes world premieres, UK debuts, and a special focus on vehicle-based horror with the “Fear on Four Wheels” strand.

Grimmfest feature film premieres
The festival kicks off on Thursday, 3rd October, with the World Premiere of Tales from the Void, followed by the UK premiere of the claustrophobic psycho-thriller Black Cab, directed by Bruce Goodison and starring Nick Frost. As the evening unfolds, the darkly comedic horror Beezel and the eerie Strange Harvest will further set the tone for what promises to be a chilling weekend.
Friday, 4th October, offers a full day of terrifying treats, starting with the mysterious Dead Mail and followed by the much-anticipated Children of the Wicker Man, a poignant documentary exploring the legacy of the classic film. The afternoon features Crumb Catcher, a dark social comedy that spirals into violent conflict, and The Well, an homage to classic Italian horror starring Terrifier 2’s Lauren Lavera. As the day progresses, festival-goers can look forward to Delivery Run, a tense battle of man versus machine, and the double feature Double Dutch: Amsterdam Alert + Heresy. The night wraps up with the brutal Sayara, a no-holds-barred exploration of revenge in Turkish society.

On Saturday, 5th October, the festival continues with Shorts Programme 2 in the morning, leading into a UK premiere of the emotionally brutal post-apocalyptic fairy tale M. The afternoon brings Self Driver, a gritty neo-noir, and From Darkness, a visually stunning fusion of Scandi-noir and supernatural horror. The evening’s highlights include the time-bending sci-fi comedy Tim Travers and the Time Traveler’s Paradox, and the much-anticipated Traumatika, a love letter to horror cinema that blends slasher, giallo, and Satanic Panic. The day ends with the UK premiere of Peg O’ My Heart, a surrealist psychodrama that delves into repressed memories and guilt.

Grimmfest 2024 promises to be a true celebration of the horror genre, with a line-up that spans a wide range of styles, themes, and subgenres. Whether you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, supernatural horror, or gritty noir, this year’s festival offers something for every horror film fan.
