Spring Haunts Brings Horror Writing Weekend to York This May

Spring Haunts 2024

York is soon set to become a haven for horror enthusiasts as Writing Magazine teams up with Alex Davis Events for a thrilling weekend dedicated to the craft of horror writing. The event, titled ‘Spring Haunts’, will be held at York’s historic Guildhall on May 11th and 12th.

Spring Haunts aims to delve into the art of crafting chilling horror stories, with a lineup of workshops, interviews, and book sales. The event is one of three writing weekends planned that spotlight various facets of fiction writing, with this edition focusing exclusively on horror.

The workshops will be facilitated by Writing Magazine’s horror columnist, Alex Davis, who is also an acclaimed lecturer and tutor. Davis will lead a series of core sessions that promise to enhance participants’ writing skills in creating atmospheric and eerie narratives.

Four prominent regional authors, Robert Edgar, Tim Major, Amanda Mason, and Mark Morris, will share their expertise through special guest sessions. These authors bring a wealth of knowledge from their works, including titles like The Routledge Companion to Folk Horror and The Wolves of London.

Tina Jackson, content editor at Writing Magazine, highlighted the educational benefits of the weekend, “Anyone interested in writing their own horror fiction or adding the fear factor to their writing will be sure to come away with really useful advice and loads of inspiration.”
