Dafne Keen and Nick Frost Whistle

Renowned director Corin Hardy, known for his work on The Nun and Gangs of London, is set to venture into the terrifying realm of high school horror with his upcoming project, Whistle. The film, which is already generating a buzz, will feature a stellar cast, including Dafne Keen of Logan fame, Sophie Nélisse from Yellowjackets, Sky Yang, Percy Hynes White, and the beloved Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead.

Whistle presents an enticing premise, where a group of misfit high school students unwittingly stumbles upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle – a cursed object. Upon blowing the whistle, a horrifying and unearthly sound is heard, summoning their own untimely deaths to seek them out and bring them to a premature end. As the body count rises, the friends find themselves embroiled in a race against time to unravel the origins of this deadly artifact and put an end to the terrifying chain of events they have set in motion.

The screenplay for Whistle was penned by Owen Egerton, who also adapted it from his own short story. Speaking to JoBlo.com, Corin Hardy explained “The premise of Whistle is simple, immediate and has a fresh, haunting mythology. A cursed object that summons your future death to come and find you. The screenplay has echoes of some of my favourite classic horrors like The Ring, A Nightmare on Elm Street or It Follows, with elements of seminal high school movies The Breakfast Club and Donnie Darko. I’m thrilled to be working with this brilliant young cast to bring this inventive, terrifying and cinematic new horror to death… I mean life.”

Principal photography for the movie is scheduled to commence in the first week of November in Ontario, Canada. This Canada-Ireland co-production falls under the ACTRA contract, ensuring it remains unaffected by the ongoing Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike.

Producer David Gross, who has previously worked on films like Room, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Corin Hardy and the talented cast, highlighting the director’s knack for capturing the essence of horror in a visually striking and emotionally resonant manner. The international sales for Whistle will be handled by Black Bear.

As we eagerly await more news on the release of Whistle, it’s sounds like the film promises a fresh take on horror, blending mythology, dread, and the timeless challenges of high school life. With a cast of rising and established stars, it’s poised to be a chilling and captivating horror experience.
