R.L. Stine’s “Fear Street” Series Returns
I was a preteen in the 1990s when R.L Stine’s “Fear Street” series became insanely popular. And I, like other horror-loving kids, couldn’t get enough of the books.
I either purchased or borrowed from the library as many of them as I could get my grubby little hands on. So, to say I was bit excited when I heard that Mr. Stine is returning to the horror-filled halls of Shadyside High School is an understatement.

In fact, the first book “Party Games” was released today, September 30, and is the first of six new books in the “Fear Street” series. The premise of “Party Games” centers around Brendan Fear, a Shadyside High School senior who throws a birthday party at his family’s summerhouse located on Fear Island. Of course, with a name like Fear Island, you just know something bad is going to go down.
R.L. Stine, who is now 70 years old, has been referred to as the “Stephen King of children’s literature” and is responsible for over 300 novels aimed at children and teens. Two of his much-loved series, “Fear Street” and “Goosebumps”, have a huge fan base, and have sold a total of more than 80 million copies. This has resulted in various TV shows and made-for-television movies based on the books.
He has explained that some of his passion from writing horror came from his reading Tales from the Crypt books when he was young, and they have had a direct influence on his writing.
Rumour has it that Netflix are currently planning a movie or two based on Fear Street. And while I’m obviously a huge fan of the books and the reading experience, I’m excited to see what would lie in store if this series was transferred to celluloid.
