‘Better Luck Than Chuck’ Launches Twisted New Horror Trivia Competition

Horror fans who have ever fancied their chances against the genre’s biggest know-it-alls are about to get their shot. Better Luck Than Chuck, a new horror-comedy trivia game show hosted by a witch and her undead husband, will premiere on YouTube later this month with appearances from Mike Flanagan, Brea Grant and other familiar names from across the horror world.

Better Than Chuck

Created by Meredith Tummillo and Tony Wash, the six-episode series launches on 24 September and stars Alexis Allotta as The Widow and Adam Michaels as Charlie, her sarcastic, reanimated husband. The pair host contestants from their mid-century horror basement, where knowledge of iconic films, characters and genre history is put to the test across a weekly competition.

The format combines traditional game show mechanics with horror-comedy storytelling. Three contestants compete across two rounds before the highest scorer advances to “Charlie’s Workshop”, where they have 90 seconds to track down recognisable horror movie items in a scavenger hunt. Their performance also determines who progresses to the season finale.

Guest question readers will include The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep filmmaker Mike Flanagan, Chad Villella of Radio Silence, Brea Grant, BJ McDonnell, Gary Sherman, Rebekah McKendry and Anthony Cousins.

There is also a considerable prize waiting at the end of the season. The grand prize package, provided by Universal Destinations & Experiences, includes return flights, hotel accommodation and two tickets to Halloween Horror Nights at either Universal Orlando or Universal Studios Hollywood.

The show draws inspiration from the irreverent energy of programmes including Remote Control, Win Ben Stein’s Money and Finders Keepers, but filters the format through a distinctly horror-heavy lens. The Widow and Charlie’s relationship adds a sitcom element to proceedings, with Charlie permanently stuck on the couch after being poisoned and subsequently resurrected by his wife.

Better Than Chuck

Tummillo developed the original concept in early 2023 before teaming with Wash, whose career in independent horror has included directing High on the Hog, The Rake and Skeletons in the Closet, alongside work with Bloody Disgusting and Screambox. Production on the inaugural season took place in March 2024.

With horror trivia, celebrity cameos and a trip to Halloween Horror Nights on the line, Better Luck Than Chuck is clearly aiming to turn deep-cut genre knowledge into something considerably more competitive than the average pub quiz.

Better Luck Than Chuck premieres on YouTube on 24 September 2026, with new episodes released on Thursdays throughout the Halloween season. Don’t miss the premiere at: youtube.com/@BetterLuckThanChuck
