READY OR NOT follows young bride, Grace, as she joins her new husband’s rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.
As the horror unfolds, Grace is forced to fight off and hide in the nooks and crannies of her new in-law’s creepy old mansion leaving audience goers sitting at the edge of their seats.
To mark the release of READY OR NOT, which releases nationwide on Wednesday 25th September, we look at the ultimate horror movie heroines who have graced our screens over the years.
5. Tippi Hedren – The Birds
Though Tippi spends the bulk of this Hitchcock classic being the damsel in distress, she also manages to hold her own when trapped in a bedroom by dozens of bloodthirsty birds, seagulls and crows at once. For that one harrowing sequence alone, Tippi Hedren’s unkillable character rightfully earns her spot on this list.
4. Neve Campbell – Scream
Sidney Prescott to horror is what John McClane is to action movies. Having had to endure multiple ghost-mask-wearing lunatics with homicidal tendencies over the course of four films, Campbell manages every time to emerge relatively unscathed. Although between being the subject of such attacks and the familial drama which unfolds, it’s a wonder Scream 4 doesn’t end up with Prescott residing in a therapists office.
3. Jodi Foster – The Silence Of The Lambs
FBI Agent Clarice Starling is a badass through and through in certainly not the most pleasant of circumstances. Holding her own in an intense mental tug-of-war with cannibalistic serial killer Dr Hannibal Lecter, Starling manages to gain his trust enough to use his consultations to catch the woman-skinning murderer known as “Buffalo Bill”.
2. Jamie Lee Curtis – Halloween
Everyone loves a good girl gone bad, especially if her reason for going bad is to kill off a homicidal maniac. John Carpenter’s slasher classic Halloween sees high school student Laurie tormented by escaped mental patient Michael Myers on, you guessed it, Halloween night. Using whatever is at her disposal, Laurie does everything she can to ensure she wakes up alive on November 1st.
1. Samara Weaving – Ready Or Not
Marrying into a board game dynasty, bride Grace knew that she may have to play a game or two during her marriage to husband Alex, but running from weapon wielding in-laws wasn’t one she was prepared for. Hailed for her stellar performance, and an all-star cast from Andie MacDowell to Adam Brody, this dark comedy is one that’s not to be missed – if only to see Samara leading the action in her chic wedding dress.
READY OR NOT IN CINEMAS FROM 25 SEPTEMBER
