‘Colony’ Breaks Out on Digital & 4K Blu-ray this Month

Ten years after Train to Busan turned a speeding train into one of modern horror’s most memorable battlegrounds, Yeon Sang-ho is returning to outbreak territory with Colony, his latest South Korean zombie thriller, which will arrive on digital, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD in the UK later this month.

Studiocanal will release the film on 28 September following its world premiere in the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival and a subsequent appearance at FrightFest London, where Colony screened alongside retrospective showings of Yeon’s Seoul Station and Train to Busan.

The film is set largely inside Seoul’s Doongwoori Building, where a biotech conference descends into chaos after disgraced scientist Seo Young-chul unleashes a mutated slime-mould virus. As the infection spreads, authorities seal the building, trapping a group of survivors inside with an increasingly dangerous threat.

What sets the creatures apart is their ability to learn collectively. Connected through a form of swarm intelligence, the infected can share sensory information and adapt after failed attacks, forcing the survivors to continually change their tactics as the situation worsens.

Jun Ji-hyun leads the cast as biotechnology professor Kwon Se-jeong, alongside Koo Kyo-hwan as Seo Young-chul, Ji Chang-wook, Kim Shin-rok, Shin Hyun-been and Go Soo.

Yeon co-wrote Colony with Choi Gyu-seok, with the pair developing the film around the idea of constantly evolving infected and survivors forced to adapt in response. The production also reunited Yeon with choreographer Jeon Young, who previously worked on Train to Busan, Peninsula and Hellbound.

Studiocanal’s UK release arrives after Colony secured distribution in more than 120 territories, while the film has also played the New York Asian Film Festival and is due to close the Tokyo International Film Festival in November.

With its contained high-rise setting, rapidly evolving infected and Yeon once again putting a fresh spin on large-scale zombie chaos, Colony looks set to give horror fans another sizeable dose of undead action as it heads to home entertainment.

Colony will be available to buy and keep on digital platforms and on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD from 28 September 2026.
