‘The Descent: Part 2’ Brings the Crawlers Back in Stunning 4K
The sequel to Neil Marshall’s terrifying horror hit, The Descent: Part 2 is set to receive its first ever 4K UHD release in the United States. Lionsgate Limited has announced a new Steelbook edition of the 2009 British horror sequel, arriving on 11 August with a newly presented Dolby Vision transfer, a collection of legacy special features and exclusive retrospective content.

Directed by Jon Harris, who previously edited Marshall’s acclaimed The Descent, the follow-up continues Sarah Carter’s ordeal moments after her escape from the cave system. Traumatised and suffering from memory loss, Sarah is forced to accompany a rescue team back underground in search of the missing women. As fragments of her memories return, the expedition discovers they are far from alone, with another tribe of flesh-hungry Crawlers waiting in the darkness.
The release marks the first time the sequel has been available in 4K in the US, packaged in a collector’s Steelbook featuring newly commissioned artwork by Matt Ryan Robin. Alongside the feature presentation, the edition includes Dolby Vision video and English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

New bonus material includes Flashback on The Descent: Part 2 with star Shauna Macdonald, while returning archival extras feature an audio commentary with director Jon Harris alongside cast members Shauna Macdonald, Krysten Cummings and Anna Skellern. Also included are the featurettes The Making of The Descent: Part 2: Deeper & Darker and The Genesis, deleted scenes with optional commentary, production galleries, trailers, electronic press kit interviews and an additional Flashback feature with Krysten Cummings.
Released in UK cinemas in December 2009, The Descent: Part 2 reunited several cast members from the original film, including Shauna Macdonald as Sarah and Natalie Mendoza as Juno. The cast also includes Douglas Hodge, Krysten Cummings, Gavan O’Herlihy, Josh Dallas and Anna Skellern.
Although Neil Marshall did not return to direct the sequel, he remained involved as an executive producer after writing and directing the original 2005 film. Harris, making his feature directorial debut, stepped behind the camera after serving as editor on the first instalment. Filming took place at Ealing Studios in London and on location in Surrey, with production making extensive use of practical sets, miniatures and visual effects to recreate the underground cave system.

While critical reaction at the time proved more divided than that of its predecessor, the sequel has remained part of one of Britain’s best-known modern horror franchises. The original film’s blend of claustrophobic suspense and creature horror helped establish it as a genre favourite, with The Descent: Part 2 continuing the story immediately after the events of the first film.
The Descent: Part 2 arrives on Lionsgate Limited 4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital Steelbook in the United States on 11 August 2026.
