‘Backrooms Everything Must Go’ Brings 16 Minutes of New Footage to Cinemas

After becoming A24’s biggest box office success to date, Backrooms is heading back to cinemas this week with an expanded theatrical edition that promises to take audiences even further into Kane Parsons’ unsettling labyrinth.

Backrooms Everything must go

The studio has announced Backrooms Everything Must Go, an extended version of the hit horror film, will open in cinemas nationwide on 3 July. The new release adds 16 minutes of previously unseen footage, giving audiences another opportunity to experience the film that has become one of this year’s biggest genre success stories while offering returning fans fresh material to uncover.

The announcement arrives little more than a month after Backrooms exceeded expectations at the global box office. Initially projected for a far more modest opening, the film debuted to more than $81 million domestically before continuing its remarkable run to more than $331 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing release in A24’s history.

Parsons’ feature adaptation expands on the online phenomenon that first drew millions of viewers to his original Backrooms series, transforming the internet horror concept into a large-scale theatrical production. Written by Will Soodik, the film stars Academy Award nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve alongside Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.

Ejiofor plays the owner of a furniture showroom whose discovery of a mysterious doorway leads him into an endless maze of impossible spaces, while Reinsve portrays the therapist determined to find him before he disappears completely.

According to A24, the extended edition will include additional mythology surrounding the mysterious Backrooms alongside further hidden details designed for audiences eager to revisit the film’s unsettling world. The new footage forms part of a special theatrical presentation rather than a home entertainment release.

The film has already secured another milestone for Parsons, whose breakout success made him the youngest filmmaker to direct a number one box office film, surpassing a record previously held by Josh Trank following the release of Chronicle.

A sequel is already in development for the Blumhouse, 21 Laps Entertainment and Chernin Entertainment production, underlining the rapid growth of a franchise that began with a series of online horror shorts before making the leap to the big screen.

Backrooms Everything Must Go arrives in cinemas nationwide on 3 July. Tickets are on sale now.
