Storm King Comics Celebrates 50 Graphic Novels with ‘Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress’
Fifty graphic novels into its publishing journey, Storm King Comics is celebrating a significant milestone with the release of Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress, a modern reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood that arrives on 9 June and marks the company’s 50th full-length graphic novel.

The announcement comes during a particularly notable period for the independent horror and science fiction publisher, which is also celebrating major award recognition and preparing to launch several high-profile projects, including John Carpenter’s first original graphic novel.
Written by LGBTQ+ author Neo Edmund and illustrated by veteran comic artist Jan Duursema, Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress follows 17-year-old Red Riding as she returns to Wayward Woods after receiving a mysterious letter. Reunited with family and old friends, she discovers supernatural abilities bestowed by ancient lunar spirits and embraces her destiny as the Alpha Huntress.
For Storm King founder Sandy King, the release represents both a publishing achievement and a continuation of the company’s long-standing affection for classic monster tales and folklore.
Reflecting on the milestone, King noted that Red Riding: Rise of the Alpha Huntress serves as the publisher’s first adaptation of an existing novel, while also drawing inspiration from one of the most enduring fairy tales in literary history.

Founded in 2012 as part of Storm King Productions, the company has established itself as one of the most recognisable names in horror comics. Under King’s leadership, Storm King has brought together writers and artists from across film, literature and comics, building a catalogue that spans supernatural horror, science fiction and fantasy.
The anniversary arrives alongside growing industry recognition. King has received her first Bram Stoker Award nomination in the Superior Achievement in a Graphic Novel category for Tales for a HalloweeNight Vol. 11. The publisher has also earned a 2026 Eisner Award nomination recognising Janice Chiang’s lettering work on Blood of the Taken: Next of Kin and Tales of Science Fiction: Pause.
Looking ahead, Storm King has two major releases planned for the summer. The first is Chaplain, arriving on 7 July. Co-written by Brad Sun and Reverend Wesley Sun, with artwork by Raúlo Cáceres, colours by Ryan Winn and lettering by Marshall Dillon, the book is described as a genre-blending horror debut that expands the publisher’s growing catalogue of original material.

Even greater attention is likely to focus on Cathedral, scheduled for release on 4 August. The project marks the first original graphic novel written by legendary filmmaker John Carpenter. Created in collaboration with Sandy King and writer Sean Sobczak, the book features artwork from Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colours by Sian Mandrake and lettering by Marshall Dillon.
Cathedral will launch alongside Carpenter’s companion music project of the same name, further extending the filmmaker’s long-running creative partnership with Storm King. The recently released track ‘Lord of the Underground’ offers audiences an early glimpse into the world of the graphic novel ahead of its publication.
The company traces its roots back to Storm King Productions, founded by King in 1991. Beyond comics, the producer has worked alongside filmmakers including Francis Ford Coppola, John Hughes, Walter Hill and Michael Mann. Her producing credits include Prince of Darkness, They Live, In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned, Vampires and Ghosts of Mars.
As Storm King Comics reaches its 50th graphic novel, the publisher finds itself balancing celebration with momentum. Between award nominations, ambitious new releases and the arrival of Carpenter’s long-awaited original graphic novel, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the company’s most active years to date.
