Possession Thriller ‘The Containment’ Locks in January Release
Independent distributor Level 33 Entertainment has set a North American theatrical release for The Containment, with the supernatural horror film opening exclusively in cinemas across the United States and Canada on January 23, 2026. The release marks the latest genre title handled by the Los Angeles based company, which acquired the film from international sales outfit Black Mandala.

Directed by filmmaking brothers Jack Zagha Kababie and Yossy Zagha Kababie, The Containment centres on Caroline Cobbler, portrayed by Gia Hunter (one of the stars of upcoming release, Primate), a young woman grappling with grief following the death of her father. As she struggles to process the loss, Caroline becomes host to a malevolent force, setting off a chain of events that pulls her family into a confrontation with something far more complex than a straightforward case of possession. When her mother turns to the church for help, the response uncovers a threat that challenges both faith and understanding.
The film also stars Jack Gouldbourne, Charlotte Hunter and Fernanda Romero, with the cast supporting a story that blends supernatural elements with themes of trauma and belief. The screenplay was written by the Zagha brothers alongside David Desola, whose previous work includes The Platform. Production duties were also handled by the directing duo, continuing a collaborative approach that has defined much of their work to date.

The Containment has had a long journey to the screen, having previously been introduced to buyers while under Black Mandala’s banner during its early market appearances. Level 33’s acquisition now positions the film for a focused theatrical rollout in early 2026, targeting audiences drawn to possession stories and psychological horror.
For Level 33 Entertainment, the release aligns with its stated aim of supporting distinctive independent films across multiple platforms. The company’s recent slate has included a mix of genre and character-driven projects, with theatrical releases forming a key part of its strategy.

The January release date places The Containment among the first wave of horror titles arriving in cinemas in the new year, a period that has increasingly become a proving ground for independent genre films seeking to break through outside the traditional autumn corridor.
Let’s hope that The Containment delivers some genuine January chills, and doesn’t just leave us out in the cold! Check the trailer below.
