Social Media Stars Face a Killer Twist in #AMFAD

Acclaimed horror director Marcus Dunstan, known for his work on the Saw franchise, returns with a modern twist on the classic slasher in #AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, set for digital release in the UK on 18 November 2024. The film, which premiered to enthusiastic audiences at the Tribeca Film Festival, brings together a cast that mixes familiar faces from the world of social media and young Hollywood, including Little Fires Everywhere star Jade Pettyjohn and social media sensation JoJo Siwa, for a thrilling and bloody night of survival.

Set in a seemingly ordinary holiday rental, All My Friends Are Dead dives headfirst into the lives of Sarah (played by Pettyjohn) and her influencer friends, who are on their way to a music festival. These social media-savvy twenty-somethings decide to spend the night partying, unaware that their every move is being tracked by hidden cameras. The group’s fun-filled evening quickly transforms into a nightmare when an uninvited guest arrives, targeting each of them with chilling precision and a deadly purpose.

The cast includes Jennifer Ens (Chapelwaite), Justin Derickson (The Midnight Club), Ali Fumiko Whitney (Find Me Falling), and Julian Haig (Riverdale), creating a lineup of fresh faces well-suited to a film rooted in contemporary culture. Dunstan’s direction uses the cast’s social media personas to add an extra layer of relevance, taking aim at the world of influencers and online fame in a storyline where followers can’t save you when real danger strikes.

In a darkly clever twist, JoJo Siwa’s character brings a haunting element to the film. Playing a former friend of the group, Siwa’s character harbours a troubled past that may be tied to the unfolding horrors. As the masked killer picks off the group one by one, secrets come to light, hinting that the murders are far from random. With each death more brutal than the last, Sarah and her few remaining friends must unravel the mystery before they become the next victims.

Known for his skill in creating suspense and delivering gut-wrenching moments, Dunstan has crafted All My Friends Are Dead with the same flair for horror that made his work on the Saw series so popular. This time, he injects his signature style with a timely commentary on the darker side of internet fame and social validation, setting up a slasher that’s as much about social critique as it is about survival.

All My Friends Are Dead promises plenty of blood and gore for slasher fans, but it also explores themes of accountability and the illusion of safety created by social media. The movie taps into the 1990s slasher nostalgia that revitalised the genre while giving it a contemporary spin, merging the thrills of classic horror with the perils of digital culture.

Distributed by 101 Films, All My Friends Are Dead will be available for UK horror fans on digital platforms from 18 November. For those who grew up on Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer but are also tuned into today’s influencer-driven world, this film is a must-watch.
