Grimmfest’s Grim Tidings from D.M. Cunningham writer and director of The Spore

Grimmfest is back and even better than ever, with more movies and madness to make the 13th edition one to remember. Taking place between the 7th to the 10th of October at Odeon Great Northern in Manchester UK there is also a hybrid online Grimmfest edition running 14th to the 17th Oct for people unable to attend the cinema event. You can find the full 2021 line up right HERE.

Recently voted one of best genre film festivals in the World by Movie maker magazine, Grimmfest is a truly independent film festival that started in 2009. Since then the fantastic festival has grown to become one of the most prestigious genre film festivals in Europe premiering the very best new movies from both new and established filmmakers from across the world.

This year our exclusive interview feature is back bringing you some insidious insights into the frightful folks whose horror films will be blowing audiences away at Grimmfest 2021.

Below we get some Grim Tidings from D.M. Cunningham writer and director of The Spore

1. Tell us why you are at Grimmfest?
To premiere our creature movie The Spore!

2. How did you get into horror?
I saw Night of the Living Dead on Shock Theater (a local horror show) at a sleepover when I was like 9 or 10 years old and it freaked me out so bad, I had to know more. Most kids would run the other way! Not this creep. I thought I was watching a documentary it seemed so real to me. So, I blame George Romero.

3. What scares you the most?
A crappy cup of coffee. Oh, and ghosts. I don’t really know why ghosts in particular. Maybe because you never know when they could show up. Maybe they’re already there! A bump in the night really freaks me out and yet kind of fires me up. I’m a weirdo!

4. Who or what is your favourite horror character?
My friend and mentor, Wes Craven (apologies for the name drop) created one of the most iconic and horrifying characters of all time. Freddy. I had posters of Freddy plastered all over my walls growing up. He changed me forever.

5. What is the grimmest thing you ever saw?
I remember watching one of the Faces of Death VHS tapes when I was young and there was this suicide on camera of some government official (don’t really remember the details) and I can never unsee the faucet of blood pouring out of him. It was the grimmest thing I’ve ever seen.

The Spore plays Sat, Oct 9th, 5:20 PM @ Odeon Screen 6 on and you can find out more and book your ticket HERE.
