Chris Sanders horror favourite:
“The Ghoul 1975 is my favourite horror film. It was the first horror film I watched as a kid. Directed by Freddy Francis and starring the wonderful Peter Cushing, it boasts all the ingredients that a great British gothic horror film could ask for.
The movie is set in the heart of the English countryside. I loved the swirling fog, rolling moorland and the large Edwardian mansion house the couple stumble upon as they set out to find help. It’s very atmospheric and mysterious.
Peter Cushing, John Hurt and Veronica Carlson are all brilliant in the lead roles too. Although we don’t see a lot of the Ghoul at the end, the excellent writing, cinematography, sumptuous set design and top-notch acting more than make up for this.”

Jon-Paul Gates horror favourite:
“My favourite horror film? Very hard to choose but it has be one that has stood the test of time: invoking the same emotions in me as the first time I saw it as a 12 year old, John Carpenter’s atmospheric chiller, THE FOG. The slow build, Hitchcockian reveal of the ship mariners and it has something for every age: grandmother’s expiring to kids being haunted with ghost stories. When the Priest questions why the Mariners didn’t exact revenge on 6 conspirators and then ‘the Fog’ returns to do exactly that, it’s the perfect pay off.
Like any cult horror film, there has to be the perfect balance between visuals, music and sound effects and, The Fog, has it in abundance.”
