Unrestricted Views from Catherine Laine Producer of Brackenmore

Love Horror: Tell us about your film?
Catherine Laine: A story of festering family history and enigmatic traditions, Brackenmore is a suspenseful thriller that weaves together the exploration of occult ritual with complex human relationships. The longer Kate stays in Brackenmore, the more she begins to realise that the eccentricities of its self-protective residents, may be more ominous than she first thought, and that she may be more entangled in their enigma than she could have ever realised.

Love Horror: How did you get into making horror movies?
Catherine Laine: I produced my first short film, Banshee, in 2010. The film was screened at a number of short film festivals to great critical acclaim. From here my interest grew in the horror genre, my follow up short film Six Feet Under, made in 2013, was shortlisted for the Short Cuts to Hell competition, in partnership with Frightfest and broadcast on the Horror Channel. Since Banshee I’ve always had the goal of producing a full feature film which finally came to fruition in 2015 with Brackenmore.

Love Horror: What is your view on horror in 2016 and how would you change it?
Catherine Laine: It’s been a very good year for horror with a good mix of originality and sequels & remakes such as The Conjuring 2, Blair Witch etc. Horror encapsulates a wide range of films and there has been a good spread whether it’s Zombie or demonic possession this year has definitely been one of the better years.

Love Horror: What is your favorite horror film and why?
Catherine Laine: Halloween! Simply, it was my earliest experience experience of a horror film and
completely turned me off the idea of babysitting.

Love Horror: If Hollywood came knocking and gave you anything you wanted what movie would you make and who would it star?
Catherine Laine: A fascinating area to explore would be around the continuing change in society due to the scary rate of technological advancements such as virtual reality. What if, sometime in the future, instead of someone being able to only visually experience an event through virtual reality that person could also experience the exact same emotions & adrenaline as well -there’s a great horror story in there somewhere! Dylan O’Brien is a young actor I worked with recently who would be fabulous in it.

Brackenmore plays at Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival on 5th November 7.30pm. Find out more and book tickets Here https://www.unrestrictedview.co.uk/uvhff-brackenmore/#prettyPhoto
