‘Deep Water’ Crash Lands at Black Sunday Before Digital Release
Plane crashes have fuelled some of cinema’s most enduring thrillers, while sharks have terrorised audiences for decades. Deep Water throws both nightmares together, plunging passengers into the Pacific Ocean where escaping the wreckage is only the beginning of their fight for survival. Ahead of its UK digital release later this month, the action thriller is heading to Black Sunday Film Festival‘s Midsummer Scream event for a special screening.

Directed by Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea filmmaker Renny Harlin, Deep Water will screen at Black Sunday Film Festival on Saturday 18 July at 10.15am, accompanied by the short film Foreign Bodies from director Lysander Wong. The festival, sponsored by Love Horror, forms part of the Midsummer Scream programme, giving audiences an early opportunity to catch Harlin’s latest survival thriller before it arrives on home entertainment platforms.
Aaron Eckhart leads the cast as Ben, a commercial airline first officer travelling from Los Angeles to Shanghai when disaster strikes mid-flight. After a catastrophic onboard fire forces an emergency water landing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the survivors initially believe they have escaped the worst. Instead, they find themselves stranded among twisted wreckage with dwindling supplies as sharks begin circling beneath the surface.

As fear spreads and desperation grows, Ben is forced to hold the remaining passengers together while searching for a route to safety. According to the official synopsis, every decision becomes a matter of life and death as the group battles both the hostile environment and the predators closing in around them.
Joining Eckhart is Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley alongside Insidious star Angus Sampson, with Lucy Barrett, Richard Crouchley and Madeleine West also featuring in the international cast.
Harlin is no stranger to large-scale action or creature features. The Finnish filmmaker built his Hollywood reputation directing A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master before delivering box office hits including Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and the shark thriller Deep Blue Sea. His latest film returns him to familiar territory, combining disaster movie spectacle with survival horror.

Aaron Eckhart, best known to many audiences for playing Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, continues his run of action-driven roles following recent appearances in Chief of Station, Muzzle and The Bricklayer. Meanwhile, Sir Ben Kingsley brings decades of screen experience to the production, having earned an Academy Award for Gandhi before starring in films ranging from Sexy Beast to Shutter Island.
Following its festival screening, Deep Water will arrive on Digital HD on 20 July before releasing on Blu-ray and DVD on 27 July through Signature Entertainment.
