‘Barbarian’ Gets Long Awaited 4K SteelBook Release
Few horror films in recent years have generated the level of word-of-mouth enjoyed by Barbarian. Now, four years after Zach Cregger’s surprise breakout shocked cinema audiences with its unpredictable twists and unsettling atmosphere, the acclaimed modern horror is finally making its physical media debut in spectacular fashion.

20th Century Studios and New Regency have announced that Barbarian will arrive on 4K Ultra HD and a limited edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook on 7 September, marking the first time the 2022 film has been released on physical home entertainment in any format.
The release includes a newly designed SteelBook featuring original artwork by Creepy Duck Design, alongside a new 4K presentation of the film that introduced audiences to one of horror’s most talked-about stories of the decade.

Written and directed by Zach Cregger in his feature directorial debut, Barbarian stars BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long. The story begins with what appears to be a simple booking mistake, as a young woman travelling to Detroit for a job interview discovers the rental property she has reserved is already occupied. What follows steadily transforms into something far stranger and considerably more dangerous as the secrets hidden beneath the house begin to emerge.
Released in cinemas in 2022, Barbarian became one of the year’s biggest horror success stories. Produced on a modest budget, the film earned widespread critical acclaim for its unpredictable storytelling and darkly comic edge, going on to gross around $45 million worldwide. It also claimed the Best Horror Movie prize at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards.
The forthcoming 4K edition is accompanied by a selection of bonus material, including the featurette Behind Barbarian, in which Cregger and members of the cast and crew discuss the creative decisions behind the film’s distinctive approach to horror. Also included is a feature-length audio commentary from Cregger and producer Roy Lee, together with a collection of deleted scenes.

For collectors, the release is particularly notable given Cregger has previously spoken publicly about his desire to see Barbarian receive a physical edition after its successful theatrical run. That wish is now becoming a reality with what is being positioned as the film’s definitive home release.
The 4K Ultra HD and limited edition SteelBook editions of Barbarian are available to pre-order now ahead of their release on 7 September 2026.
