‘Mars Attacks!’ Lands First 4K UHD Release for 30th Anniversary

Thirty years after Martians descended on Earth with cries of ‘Ack! Ack!’ and left a trail of destruction across Washington, Las Vegas and beyond, Tim Burton’s cult sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! is preparing for a new home entertainment release with its first-ever 4K Ultra HD debut.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced that the 1996 film will arrive on 4K UHD Blu-ray, SteelBook and a newly assembled Collector’s Edition on 10 August, coinciding with celebrations surrounding the film’s upcoming 30th anniversary.

The release will feature a newly remastered presentation in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR), alongside a selection of new bonus material looking back on the making of the film three decades after its original release.

Among the newly produced extras is Looking Back on Mars Attacks!, which sees filmmakers revisit their experiences working with Burton on the alien invasion comedy. Another featurette, Ack! Ack! Aesthetic, explores the film’s distinctive visual style and examines how its computer-generated Martians were brought to life during a period when CGI technology was still rapidly evolving.

Loosely adapted from the classic Topps trading card series, Mars Attacks! assembled one of the most star-studded casts of the decade. Jack Nicholson led the film in a dual role, joined by Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Sarah Jessica Parker, Martin Short, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Tom Jones, Rod Steiger and Jim Brown.

The film follows a chaotic alien invasion after Martians arrive on Earth claiming to come in peace before launching an attack that plunges the planet into mayhem. Released in December 1996, the film received mixed reviews at the time but has since built a devoted following, becoming one of Burton’s most celebrated cult titles.

The new Collector’s Edition will include both the 4K UHD and Blu-ray versions of the film, housed in a SteelBook with acetate O-ring packaging, alongside posters, artwork cards and behind-the-scenes collectibles.

Mars Attacks! arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, SteelBook and Collector’s Edition on 10 August 2026.
