A luxury wedding celebration descends into violence and paranoia in Chum, the survival thriller starring Alice Eve that is heading to cinemas and digital platforms on 5 June from Independent Film Company.

Set against the coastal backdrop of Malta, the film follows a destination wedding interrupted by a deadly shark attack before an even more dangerous human threat emerges. In the film, the wedding party soon finds themselves trapped between open water and a fisherman harbouring his own sinister motives, forcing guests to fight for survival as hidden tensions and fractured loyalties surface.

Alice Eve leads the cast in the latest feature from filmmaker Jonathan Zuck, whose previous directing work includes Within the Darkness and Meant to Be Broken. Best known for performances in Star Trek Into Darkness, Cult Killer and Haunting of the Queen Mary, Eve also serves as a producer on the project alongside Eamon O’Rourke, Lucas Jarach and Luke Daniels.

The film combines creature feature suspense with psychological thriller elements, placing equal emphasis on the collapsing marriage at its centre and the escalating violence surrounding the stranded guests.

Eric Michael Cole co-stars alongside Eve, with the cast also featuring Elle Haymond, Sarah Siadat, Johnny Gaffney, Lisa Yaro and Jim Klock. Cole previously appeared in Ridley Scott’s White Squall and later built a career across television and independent film, including roles in Sons of Anarchy and Southland.

For director Jonathan Zuck, Chum represents his most high-profile feature to date. Before moving into genre filmmaking, Zuck worked extensively as a photographer, digital artist and commercial filmmaker, drawing inspiration from filmmakers including Orson Welles and Stanley Kubrick. His earlier projects ranged from shorts and experimental work to the psychological horror film Within the Darkness in 2016.

The screenplay is credited to Zuck and Joe Leone from a story developed by James Kondelik, Ryan R. Johnson and Dick Grunert. Produced across the United States and Malta, the film joins a continuing wave (pun intended) of shark-centred horror projects while introducing a more grounded human threat within its survival setup.

Chum opens in select cinemas and on VOD and digital platforms on 5 June 2026.
