‘Scary Movie’ Unleashes New Poster Ahead of June Return

Excitement levels are rising as Paramount Pictures has unveiled another poster for Scary Movie ahead of the franchise’s long-awaited return to cinemas on 5 June 2026, reuniting the original creative team and cast members more than two decades after the series first became a box office phenomenon.

Presented in association with Miramax, the new instalment sees Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris and Regina Hall reprise their roles as Shorty, Ray, Cindy and Brenda, with the latest chapter once again targeting the horror genre’s biggest trends and most recognisable franchises.

Directed by Michael Tiddes, the film is written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez. The production marks the first major Scary Movie project developed directly by the Wayans family since Scary Movie 2 in 2001, restoring the creators most closely associated with the franchise’s original style and tone.

According to the official synopsis, the surviving “Core Four” find themselves back in the crosshairs of a familiar masked killer 26 years after the events of the first film. The new story broadens its focus beyond slashers to parody modern horror filmmaking trends including reboots, sequels, requels, spin-offs, origin stories and so-called “elevated horror”.

The cast also includes Damon Wayans Jr., Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro and Sydney Park. Returning supporting players from earlier entries further underline the production’s attempt to reconnect with audiences who helped turn the original films into major commercial hits during the 2000s.

The Scary Movie franchise launched in 2000 with Keenen Ivory Wayans directing the first film, a broad parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Produced on a reported $19 million budget, the original became a runaway success, grossing more than $278 million worldwide and spawning multiple sequels over the next decade.

While later entries shifted creative direction after the Wayans family departed the series, the 2026 revival appears focused on recapturing the chaotic energy and pop culture satire that defined the earlier films. Confirmed parody targets reportedly include Get Out, Nope, Longlegs, Heretic, Sinners and Weapons, alongside expected nods to legacy slasher franchises.

The newly released poster leans heavily into the those from pervious instalments, and the film’s irreverent tone, pairing familiar faces with the franchise’s trademark spoof-horror imagery. Paramount has also pushed the tagline “This is some scuuury sh*t”, signalling that the new instalment intends to embrace the same deliberately outrageous humour that made the original films cultural fixtures in the early 2000s.

Scary Movie arrives exclusively in cinemas on 5 June.
