‘Insidious Out of the Further’ Unleashes New Chapter This August

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further, offering an early look at the next chapter in the long-running supernatural horror series. The film, directed and written by Jacob Chase, is scheduled to arrive exclusively in cinemas on 21 August, continuing the franchise following 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door.

The newly released footage introduces audiences to Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, a single mother who returns to her childhood home while raising her daughter. The trailer outlines the central premise, revealing that Gemma possesses the ability to enter The Further, the shadowy realm that has remained central to the series since its inception. Unlike previous characters, however, she is able to bring entities from that dimension back into the real world, a development that reshapes the stakes of the story.

As depicted in the trailer, the discovery of this ability draws the attention of malevolent forces that seek to exploit it, with the boundary between worlds becoming increasingly unstable.

The cast also includes Brandon Perea and franchise stalwart Lin Shaye, who reprises her role as Elise Rainier, a character closely associated with the franchise since its early entries. Additional appearances come from Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell and Laura Gordon.

The film is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, all of whom have been instrumental in shaping the series since its origins. The project was first confirmed in development in 2024, with filming taking place in Melbourne, Australia later in 2025. The production utilised locations across Victoria, doubling for an American setting.

Insidious: Out of the Further

Insidious: Out of the Further is the the sixth instalment in the series, which began in 2010 and has since developed into one of Blumhouse’s most recognisable horror properties. The franchise has consistently returned to the concept of The Further, a liminal space inhabited by spirits, with each film expanding its mythology through new characters and variations on the premise.

The release of the trailer signals the start of the film’s promotional campaign ahead of its late summer debut. Insidious: Out of the Further will be released in cinemas on 21 August.
