Eternia Rises Again In First Look At ‘Masters of the Universe’

The first teaser trailer and poster have been unveiled for Masters of the Universe, offering an early look at the long-gestating live-action revival of Mattel’s fantasy franchise ahead of its planned cinema release later this year. Directed by Travis Knight, the film marks the most ambitious attempt yet to return He-Man and Eternia to the big screen following decades of stalled development and shifting studio plans.

The teaser introduces Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, a character separated from his home world for years before being drawn back to Eternia by the Sword of Power. The footage frames a kingdom in decline under the control of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, with Adam forced to confront both his past and his responsibilities. As the story unfolds, Adam allies himself with Teela, portrayed by Camila Mendes, and Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, played by Idris Elba, as he accepts his role as He-Man.

Knight, whose previous work has combined large-scale spectacle with character-driven storytelling, steps into a property that has seen numerous iterations fail to reach production. The screenplay credits reflect the project’s lengthy evolution, with Chris Butler joined by Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and Dave Callaham, while the story itself draws on earlier drafts by multiple writers over more than a decade of development.

The cast brings together a wide range of established screen talent, including Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, James Purefoy as King Randor and Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena. The supporting line-up also features Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Sasheer Zamata and Kristen Wiig, who lends her voice to Roboto.

Production began in London in January 2025 and wrapped later that summer, with extensive visual effects work continuing through post-production. Industrial Light & Magic and several other leading effects houses have contributed to the film’s digital environments and character designs, underscoring the scale of the undertaking.

After passing through the hands of multiple studios over the years, Masters of the Universe is now set for release in the United States and Canada on 5 June 2026 via Amazon MGM Studios, with Sony Pictures Releasing International handling overseas distribution.
