‘Tron: Ares’ Joins the Franchise Collection on Home Video
After its theatrical run last autumn, Tron: Ares arrives on home entertainment formats today, marking the latest chapter in Disney’s long-running science fiction property as it transitions to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD. The release, dated 12 January 2026 in the UK, also includes a limited-edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook, aimed squarely at collectors drawn to the franchise’s distinctive visual identity.

Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film continues the legacy established by Tron and Tron: Legacy, expanding the concept of the Grid by bringing artificial intelligence directly into the real world. Jared Leto leads the cast as Ares, a sophisticated combat program whose mission places him at the centre of a growing conflict between human ambition and digital autonomy. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson and Hasan Minhaj, with Jeff Bridges returning as Kevin Flynn, a presence that anchors the film to its predecessors.
Although the film divided critics on release and struggled commercially, Tron: Ares has been widely acknowledged for its technical polish. Rønning’s approach leans heavily on practical staging combined with high-end visual effects, while the soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails brings a harsher, more abrasive edge to the series’ electronic heritage. The band’s involvement, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross also serving as executive producers, signals a deliberate tonal shift from the sleek nostalgia of Tron: Legacy.

The home release offers an extensive slate of bonus material designed to contextualise that evolution. Deleted scenes and multiple featurettes explore the film’s production, from the construction of its heavy, illuminated costumes to the design of its large-scale action sequences. A dedicated making-of segment follows Leto and Rønning through the project’s lengthy development, which was disrupted by industry strikes before filming finally took place in Vancouver in early 2024.
Alongside the standalone release, Disney is also issuing the Tron Franchise 3-Movie Collection on Blu-ray and DVD, bringing together the original 1982 film, Tron: Legacy and Tron: Ares in a single set. For a property that has often resurfaced in bursts rather than as a continuous series, the package presents a rare opportunity to trace its shifting relationship with technology across four decades.

For Disney, the home debut provides a second life for a film whose ambitions extended beyond box office performance, positioning Tron: Ares as a visually ambitious addition to a catalogue increasingly shaped by format longevity and collector appeal.
