‘Street Fighter’ Unveils 17 Warriors in Explosive First Look
The upcoming big-screen reboot of Street Fighter made a high-impact entrance this week, with Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment releasing a first sneak peek and a full suite of character posters during a surprise appearance at The Game Awards in Los Angeles. The presentation offered fans their earliest glimpse of the film’s ambitious scope, showcasing all 17 of its iconic combatants as the long-running video game franchise prepares to return to cinemas in October 2026.

The reveal took place at the Peacock Theater on Thursday night, where several members of the cast appeared in person to introduce the footage. Among those on stage were Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Callina Liang, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz and Vidyut Jammwal, underscoring the film’s crossover appeal between film, television, music and professional sport. Jason Momoa, who also serves as a producer on the project, headlines the cast as Blanka.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is positioned as a full-scale reboot rather than a continuation of previous screen adaptations. Set in 1993, the story reunites estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters when Chun-Li recruits them for a new World Warrior Tournament. What initially presents itself as a global test of skill and endurance soon reveals a deeper conspiracy, forcing the rivals to confront unresolved history while facing threats both inside and outside the ring.

The newly released sneak peek leans heavily into the franchise’s roots, blending stylised martial arts, heightened personalities and a heightened sense of spectacle that reflects the arcade origins of the series. The accompanying character posters place equal emphasis on fan favourites and more unexpected inclusions, from Dastmalchian’s imposing M. Bison to Orville Peck’s masked take on Vega, with professional fighters such as Cody Rhodes and Alexander Volkanovski joining the line-up.
Legendary acquired the screen rights to Street Fighter in 2023, with Capcom closely involved in development. After an early change in creative direction, Sakurai boarded the project in early 2025, with principal photography taking place in Australia between August and November of that year. The production brings together a creative team with experience spanning comedy, action and genre filmmaking, aiming to balance spectacle with character-driven conflict.

Scheduled for release in cinemas on 16 October 2026, Street Fighter represents one of Paramount’s most high-profile video game adaptations to date. We can’t wait for them to bring the world of Hadoukens and high kicks back into the mainstream spotlight! Check out the teaser below.
