Time Travel Is Dangerous Brings Chaos and Comedy to Digital This September

The British sci-fi comedy Time Travel Is Dangerous will make its way to digital platforms on 29 September, following a theatrical release earlier this year that drew strong reviews and festival attention. The film, produced by Shakespeare Sisters and Candr Pictures, blends surreal humour with science fiction, building its premise around the hazards of meddling with time.

The feature is directed by Chris Reading, who previously helmed Alien: Containment for Twentieth Century Fox, and co-written with Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare and Hillary Shakespeare, the sister duo behind Soundtrack to Sixteen. This collaboration has resulted in a project that takes the shopfront of Muswell Hill’s ChaChaCha as its backdrop, where real-life shop owners Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson also star as versions of themselves.

The story follows Ruth and Megan as they stumble upon a time machine and begin “borrowing” items from the past to stock their shop. While their intentions extend no further than acquiring antiques and retro clothing, their casual raids through history soon bring them into contact with “the Unreason”, a chaotic time-space vortex that threatens to engulf them.

The production is bolstered by a cast that features some of Britain’s most recognisable comedic and dramatic actors. Stephen Fry provides narration, with performances from Johnny Vegas (Benidorm), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Mark Heap (Spaced), Brian Bovell (Love Actually), Tony Way (After Life), Guy Henry (Harry Potter), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Laura Aikman (Gavin and Stacey) and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts).

The digital release will be accompanied by a public event at London’s Alexandra Palace, featuring live music, stalls, and a special screening. This final in-person celebration will return the film to its North London origins before its wider roll-out online.

Time Travel Is Dangerous will be available on all major digital platforms from 29 September.
