Date Night Horror Hits Home with ‘Drop’
From the producers behind M3GAN and A Quiet Place comes Drop, now available on Blu-ray™ and DVD in the UK. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has teamed with Spirit Entertainment to bring Christopher Landon’s latest thriller to home audiences from today, with physical editions stocked by HMV, Amazon, Zavvi and Rarewaves.

Landon, best known for directing the Happy Death Day films, shifts gears from dark comedy to relentless suspense in Drop. Meghann Fahy, Emmy® nominee for The White Lotus, stars as Violet, a widowed mother cautious about returning to the dating scene. Her companion for the evening is Henry, played by Brandon Sklenar of 1923 and It Ends With Us. What begins as an unlikely but promising first date at a high-end restaurant soon morphs into a fight for survival when Violet receives anonymous threats on her phone. Told to follow every instruction or face the killing of her young son, she is forced to choose between protecting her child and destroying her date.

The film’s setting, the sleek dining venue Palate, functions as both glamourous backdrop and honey-trap of terror. Landon choreographs tension through sharp cinematography by Marc Spicer and a score by Bear McCreary that keeps each “drop” of information dripping with menace. As secrets pile up and suspicion ripples through the hanging lights and clinking glasses, the film keeps viewers guessing who can be trusted and who is setting the deadly game in motion.
Home media buyers will find a feast of bonuses. A feature commentary with Landon delves into the film’s conception and production. Three featurettes explore the making of the film’s central location, the chemistry between Fahy and Sklenar, and the mechanics of its nerve-rattling thrills. Design fans can dive into “A Palate for Panic”, a behind-the-scenes look at bringing the restaurant to life, while “Killer Chemistry” dissects the actors’ strategies for maintaining authenticity under pressure.

Produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes alongside Jason Blum, Drop premiered to positive reviews at SXSW and has grossed over $28 million worldwide. Its home release comes with a reversible cover and packaging that pays tribute to the restaurant’s modern elegance. For anyone who thought a first date could only be awkward, Drop offers a far more frightening possibility.
Drop is available to buy now from all good retailers.
