‘Hell Motel’ Leads Shudder’s Killer June Releases

Shudder has lifted the lid on its June slate for viewers in the UK and Ireland, and it brings a potent mix of original horrors and cult oddities, headlined by a gruesome new anthology series and several exclusive premieres. The horror-focused streamer continues its strategy of combining bold new content with rediscovered cult fare, creating a curated space that keeps its subscriber base consistently engaged.

Topping the bill is Hell Motel, a Shudder Original series launching on Tuesday 17 June. The show comes from the team behind Slasher and features Emmy Award winner Eric McCormack in a leading role. Set in the newly reopened Cold River Motel, infamous for an unsolved Satanic mass murder three decades earlier, the series follows ten guests lured to the site under the guise of a true crime-themed weekend getaway. The reunion of these amateur sleuths quickly turns sinister when history begins to repeat itself in bloodier, more sadistic fashion. As bodies pile up and paranoia mounts, Hell Motel promises to layer its past and present horrors with a growing sense of claustrophobia and carnage.

Also on the calendar is Best Wishes To All, a new Shudder Original film landing on Friday 13 June. It centres on a young woman’s visit to her grandparents’ rural home, where the placid exterior masks a secret that has sustained their happiness through disturbing means. As the psychological strain deepens, the film explores themes of self-perception, inherited trauma and the thin line between personal peace and moral compromise.

Two other titles premiering on 1 June expand the streamer’s offering of supernatural and cult fare. First is Children of the Corn (2020), a reimagining that explores the events leading up to the now-infamous massacre of adults by the children of a small Nebraskan town. The film serves as both a prelude and a contemporary take on Stephen King’s original concept, revisiting ecological anxieties and generational tension.

Also launching is the Canadian horror-comedy Wolfcop, in which an alcoholic policeman undergoes a lupine transformation, becoming an unlikely werewolf lawman in a town consumed by chaos and occult conspiracies. Known for its crude humour, latex gore and tongue-in-cheek tone, Wolfcop joins the platform’s collection of horror oddities with cult potential.

The announcement cements Shudder’s commitment to diversity within the genre, balancing original content with exclusives and international horror. Previous months have seen the platform bolster its reputation with premieres such as When Evil Lurks, Skinamarink and The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs, all of which have become talking points within horror communities.

With June’s line-up, Shudder continues to offer a curated escape into the weird, the grisly and the uncanny, a space where genre storytelling thrives and old icons are reimagined with fresh menace.
