Shudder’s May Lineup Brings Terror to Your Screen

Horror fans in the UK and Ireland are in for a chilling treat this month as AMC Networks’ premium streaming platform Shudder rolls out a packed schedule of original films, exclusives, and cult classics across May 2025. The platform, known for delivering genre-defining cinema and series, continues to expand its reach with an exciting lineup blending supernatural terrors, psychological thrills, and beloved retro gems.

Ugly Stepsister Shudder

Leading the charge is The Ugly Stepsister, a Shudder Original film that promises a warped and blood-soaked take on the familiar Cinderella tale. In a kingdom obsessed with beauty, Elvira is prepared to do whatever it takes to capture the prince’s attention, setting the stage for a brutal and twisted rivalry with the captivating Agnes. With a date yet to be confirmed, this twisted fairytale will be a highlight when it premieres exclusively on Shudder and AMC+.

Also arriving this month is The Surrender, another Shudder Original set to premiere on 23 May. The film delves into the unsettling aftermath of a family’s grief when a mother, desperate to resurrect her deceased husband, hires a mysterious figure to bring him back. As the bizarre ritual spirals into chaos, mother and daughter must reconcile their differences while fighting for survival. Expect emotional intensity mixed with horrifying surprises.

Vampire Hunter D Shudder

On 30 May, Shudder marks the 40th anniversary of the cult anime classic Vampire Hunter D, bringing the legendary film to Shudder, AMC+, and HIDIVE. Set in a bleak future dominated by vampires, the film follows the stoic and enigmatic D as he is hired by Doris Lang to prevent her forced marriage to Count Magnus Lee. For fans of gothic action and dark fantasy, this anniversary release is an unmissable event.

Beyond new premieres, Shudder is bolstering its extensive film library with a range of classic titles. Available from 1 May are haunting selections including Suddenly in the Dark, The Devil’s Business, Blood on Satan’s Claw, Curse of the Crimson Altar, Witchfinder General, and Itim (The Rites of May). Each offers a unique slice of horror history, from psychological hauntings to period witch hunts.

A Night of Horror Vol. 1

Later in the month, viewers can catch A Bittersweet Life and The Chaser on 5 May, followed by the indie anthology A Night of Horror Vol 1. On 19 May, dystopian action takes centre stage with Dead End Drive-In, and on 26 May, gothic horror returns with The Whip and the Body.

Shudder’s May offerings reaffirm its commitment to delivering horror in all its forms, from cutting-edge originals to restored classics. With its ever-growing catalogue and passionate international fanbase, Shudder remains the go-to platform for those seeking both timeless frights and fresh nightmares.
