University Sinks Teeth into ‘Terrifier’ with Global Conference
A first-of-its-kind horror event is coming to the UK this spring, and it’s one that promises more blood, brains and critical theory than your average academic symposium. From 2nd to 3rd May, the University of Warwick will host the world’s first Terrifier conference, an international gathering of scholars dissecting the cultural, psychological and aesthetic impact of Damien Leone’s cult horror series, Terrifier and Terrifier 2.

Presented in partnership with Signature Entertainment, the event will run as a hybrid affair, with online sessions on Friday 2nd May and in-person programming on Saturday 3rd May. Drawing participants from across the globe – including Ukraine, India, Brazil, Canada, Italy, France, the US and the UK – the conference promises a bloody deep dive into one of horror’s most talked-about modern franchises.
Since first grinning his way onto screens in Leone’s All Hallows’ Eve and later headlining Terrifier (2016) and Terrifier 2 (2022), Art the Clown has cemented his place in horror history. He doesn’t speak, barely blinks, and yet he’s become a viral symbol of ultra-violent DIY terror. Terrifier 2 shocked box office projections in both the US and UK with its unapologetic splatter, grassroots hype, and devout following, pulling in £3.4 million in the UK and Ireland alone under Signature’s distribution.
The conference at Warwick will tackle that phenomenon from a host of unexpected angles. Topics include the aesthetics of gore, the implications of Art’s silence, explorations of neurodivergence, and subverted gender tropes within the films’ violent tableaux. From critical discussions on clown performance to the mechanics of practical effects, the programme aims to analyse not just what makes Art scary, but what makes him culturally significant.
Among the highlights is a marketing-focused seminar led by Signature’s Marek Pugh and Jonny Bunning, who will discuss how bold publicity choices and disruptive social media strategies helped Terrifier 3 become the company’s top-grossing title to date.

Alongside the conference, Signature Entertainment will also be releasing Terrifier: The Bloody Duo, a special edition UHD box set collecting Terrifier and Terrifier 2 in one gory package. Set for release on 26th May, the box set offers fans an opportunity to revisit every splatter-soaked kill in razor-sharp clarity ahead of Art’s anticipated return in Terrifier 3 later this year.
