‘Nosferatu – The Real Story’ Hits Digital This December
Just in time for Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated Nosferatu reimagining to hit cinemas on New Year’s Day, a gripping new documentary sheds light on the origins of one of horror cinema’s most influential creations. Nosferatu – The Real Story, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Robin Bextor (Twisters: The Real Story, The Exorcist Untold), is set to arrive on UK digital platforms on 16 December 2024, courtesy of Reel 2 Reel Films.

The documentary delves into the tumultuous history of FW Murnau’s 1922 silent masterpiece, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. Widely regarded as a cornerstone of horror, the film was an unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This led to a dramatic copyright battle with Stoker’s widow, Florence Balcombe, who famously ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed. Against all odds, the film survived, much like the undead vampire it depicted, to become a lasting icon of the genre.

Nosferatu – The Real Story offers a detailed look at how the original film has shaped over a century of horror cinema. Featuring interviews with film historians, critics, and genre experts, the documentary explores the artistry behind Murnau’s haunting visuals and the cultural impact of the film’s villain, Count Orlok. It also examines how the character inspired countless iterations of the vampire in cinema, leading directly to Eggers’ upcoming reimagining of the classic tale.

Bextor’s documentary promises an engaging exploration of Nosferatu‘s influence, tracing how its eerie legacy has endured through decades of remakes, adaptations, and reinterpretations. It’s an unmissable opportunity for fans of classic and contemporary horror alike to uncover the story behind the film that redefined monsters on the silver screen.
Available on UK digital platforms from 16 December, Nosferatu – The Real Story provides the perfect prelude to Eggers’ new vision and a compelling deep dive into the creation and preservation of one of horror’s greatest legends.
