Danish Horror ‘Speak No Evil’ Arrives for Home Viewing

Prepare for a chilling December as Christian Tafdrup’s critically acclaimed Danish horror, Speak No Evil, finally arrives on DVD and digital in the UK. Acorn Media International has announced the home release date for 2 December 2024, allowing audiences to experience what many critics have hailed as one of the most unnerving films of recent years.

Speak No Evil 2022

Initially released in 2022, Speak No Evil took the festival circuit by storm, premiering to high praise at Sundance and drawing accolades across the board. This psychological thriller examines the often sinister undertones of social etiquette, where manners and restraint clash with primal survival instincts.

The plot follows a seemingly ordinary Danish family – Bjorn (Morten Burian), Louise (Sidsel Siem Koch), and their young daughter, Agnes (Liva Forsberg) – as they vacation in Tuscany. There, they cross paths with a charismatic Dutch family, Patrick (Fedja van Huet), Karin (Karina Smulders), and their son, Abel (Marius Damslev), and an instant connection is formed. The Danes, drawn to the Dutch family’s seemingly carefree lifestyle, agree to visit them in their remote home. What begins as a pleasant reunion quickly spirals into something far darker as unsettling tensions and bizarre behaviour surface.

As the Danish family’s discomfort grows, so does the danger. Trapped in a web of politeness and social conventions, Bjorn and Louise find themselves unable to voice their fears or refuse their hosts’ increasingly uncomfortable hospitality. The atmosphere of dread thickens, building towards an excruciatingly tense climax that leaves audiences questioning the true cost of politeness.

Speak No Evil 2022

With the 2024 remake drawing crowds in UK cinemas, this original version offers a purer, more visceral experience of Tafdrup’s unique brand of horror. Combining social commentary with intense psychological terror, Speak No Evil taps into universal fears around the hidden malice in everyday interactions, making it an experience that lingers long after you have watched it.

Fans of slow-burn horror and dark psychological thrillers will find Speak No Evil an unforgettable watch. The film’s reputation has only grown since its festival debut, solidifying it as a modern classic in horror cinema. With a relatively short runtime of 98 minutes, Tafdrup’s story wastes no time immersing viewers in an atmosphere of dread that escalates into full-blown horror.

Speak No Evil becomes available on DVD for £15.99 and digital download from 2 December 2024.
