Terrifying Greek Myth Haunts New Horror Film, ‘Its Name Was Mormo’

Uncork’d Entertainment has announced the release of Its Name Was Mormo, a tense horror-thriller steeped in Greek mythology. The film is set to make its theatrical debut on November 9, followed by a digital release on November 26, giving audiences a chance to experience the unsettling story of a family terrorised by an ancient presence. The official trailer, now available online, offers a glimpse into the creeping dread that will soon be haunting viewers.

Its Name Was Mormo

Its Name Was Mormo follows the terrifying experiences of a young family—Mark, Diana, and their daughter Mia—who are unknowingly targeted by a sinister force. As strange and disturbing events unfold in their new home, the family finds themselves at the mercy of a malevolent entity deeply rooted in Greek folklore. The demon, Mormo, takes its time tormenting each member of the family in ways that slowly unravel their once peaceful lives.

Originally an impromptu production, the film took on a life of its own after the discovery of an eerie, crumbling village during filming. Initially, the project was never meant for release, but as real-life mysterious incidents occurred during production, the film’s trajectory shifted. Unplanned moments, unsettling off-camera experiences, and eerie symbolism integrated into the home blurred the line between fiction and reality for the cast and crew.

Directed by and starring Mark Andrew Bowers, the film is a personal project that features his wife, Diana Cardenas, and their daughter, Mia Bowers. Their genuine family dynamic infuses the film with a raw, intimate quality, making the terrifying events feel all the more real. Bowers, making his directorial debut, transforms a simple domestic setup into a claustrophobic, nerve-wracking experience where the supernatural force is as much a character as the family it terrorises.

“The process of making Its Name Was Mormo was both challenging and terrifying for all of us,” said Bowers. “But we’re incredibly proud of the result and excited to partner with Uncork’d Entertainment to share our story with horror fans across the globe.”

The film’s unique approach to horror, combined with the mythological influence of Mormo—a figure in ancient Greek lore associated with night terrors and vengeful spirits—sets it apart in the genre. Uncork’d Entertainment president Keith Leopard praised the project, saying, “The film’s blend of horror, mythology, and personal storytelling creates an unforgettable experience. We’re thrilled to bring this haunting tale to audiences.”

Its Name Was Mormo will be released in both English and Spanish-language versions, expanding its reach and ensuring it resonates with a broader international audience. Fans of psychological horror and supernatural thrillers can look forward to the film’s arrival in theatres on November 9, with digital streaming available from November 26.
