‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘Signs’ Get Stunning 4K Makeover This December

Two of M. Night Shyamalan‘s most iconic films, The Sixth Sense and Signs, are getting a stunning 4K UHD and 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release this December. Fans of the Oscar®-nominated director will be able to experience the films in exceptional detail when they debut on 16th December, marking the first time these beloved thrillers have been available in 4K quality. For collectors, the release also includes a steelbook edition, exclusively available through HMV.

Sixth Sense and Signs

This special release comes as The Sixth Sense celebrates its 25th anniversary. Known for one of the most memorable twists in cinematic history, the psychological thriller captivated audiences in 1999 and went on to earn six Oscar® nominations, including Best Picture. The film stars Bruce Willis as Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist struggling to help a young boy named Cole, played by Haley Joel Osment. Cole’s shocking revelation, “I see dead people,” has become a lasting symbol of the film’s eerie and emotionally resonant storytelling. Toni Collette also gives a powerful performance as Cole’s mother, whose love and desperation anchor the movie’s more supernatural elements.

The Sixth Sense

Signs, released in 2002, is another Shyamalan favourite that deftly blends suspense with heartfelt drama. Starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, the film tells the story of Graham Hess, a former priest and farmer, who begins to uncover mysterious crop circles on his property in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. What begins as an agricultural anomaly soon becomes a global phenomenon, drawing Hess and his family into a battle against an alien threat. With its poignant exploration of faith, family, and fear of the unknown, Signs quickly became a sci-fi staple of the early 2000s.

Both films have undergone meticulous restoration for their 4K UHD release, with the original negatives scanned at 4K resolution and enhanced in High Dynamic Range (HDR). This remastering promises an even more immersive experience, with sharper visuals and richer contrasts bringing new life to Shyamalan’s intricate storytelling and visual craft. Fans of the director’s unique blend of tension and emotional depth will now be able to see these films in the way they were always meant to be viewed—crystal clear, and beautifully unsettling.

Signs

M. Night Shyamalan, born in Puducherry, India, and raised in suburban Philadelphia, has made a name for himself by crafting stories that delve into the supernatural, exploring themes of belief, mystery, and psychological tension. He first burst into mainstream recognition with The Sixth Sense, a film that not only became a box office success but also solidified Shyamalan’s reputation for delivering unexpected and thought-provoking twists. His collaboration with Bruce Willis on this project was so well-received that they reunited the following year for Unbreakable, another Shyamalan film that has since become a cult favourite.

These new 4K releases are a must-have for both long-time fans and newcomers to Shyamalan’s work, providing an opportunity to revisit the thrills and chills of The Sixth Sense and Signs with renewed clarity. Whether you’re looking to add these classics to your collection or discover them for the first time, the stunning new editions ensure an unforgettable viewing experience.

Pre-orders for The Sixth Sense and Signs are now available on popular platforms including HMV, Amazon, Planet of Entertainment, Zavvi, and Rarewaves, with a special steelbook edition being offered exclusively at HMV. With these releases coming just in time for the holiday season, fans can look forward to celebrating the festive period with two of the most compelling thrillers of the last few decades.
