‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Back with a Bang: Stars Gather in London for Spooky Sequel

On 30th August 2024, the iconic One Marylebone in London played host to a special photocall event for the highly anticipated film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The gathering marked a nostalgic reunion for fans as the legendary director Tim Burton and the original cast, including Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, were joined by new stars such as Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, and Willem Dafoe to promote the long-awaited sequel.

In a fittingly quirky and atmospheric setting, the event was a celebration of both the old and new, with Burton’s creative genius once again taking centre stage. The cast and crew, all smiles and clearly thrilled to be part of this sequel, posed for the cameras and shared anecdotes about working on the film, which sees the return of Keaton’s mischievous and beloved character, Betelgeuse.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to be a delightful continuation of the darkly comedic world that Burton first brought to life in 1988. The sequel picks up years after the original, following the Deetz family as they return to Winter River. This time, the story takes a twist as Lydia Deetz’s rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, stumbles upon the town’s mysterious model in the attic, accidentally opening a portal to the Afterlife. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Betelgeuse’s name three times, unleashing his chaotic brand of mayhem once again.

The event was a teaser of the cinematic experience to come, with Burton and the cast hinting at what audiences can expect. The presence of Jenna Ortega, fresh from her success on Wednesday, added an exciting dynamic to the mix, as she steps into the role of Astrid, Lydia Deetz’s daughter. Ortega, who formed a close bond with Ryder on set, described the experience as “intense and surreal,” noting that Ryder became a mentor to her throughout the filming process.

Burton’s signature touch is evident in every detail of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, from the cast’s costumes to the eerie yet playful aesthetic of the film. The trailer, which debuted earlier this month at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, has already generated immense buzz, with fans eagerly anticipating the film’s release in cinemas and IMAX on September 6, 2024.

In addition to the original cast reprising their roles, the sequel introduces several new characters, with Willem Dafoe portraying an afterlife police officer and Monica Bellucci stepping into the role of Betelgeuse’s wife, Delores. The film also sees the return of Harry Belafonte’s iconic “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song),” a nostalgic nod to one of the most memorable scenes from the original movie.

With a story that blends family-friendly humour, gothic visuals, and Burton’s signature style, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to captivate audiences both young and old. The cast’s palpable excitement and the enthusiastic reception of the trailer suggest that this sequel will live up to its predecessor, delivering a fresh yet familiar experience that will leave fans saying “Beetlejuice” three times over.
