The Black Sunday Film Festival has an exciting line-up for its much anticipated one-day mini-fest, set to take place at the Odeon Chelmsford this Saturday, 20th July. Known for its dedication to showcasing the best in independent genre filmmaking, this year’s event promises a thrilling array of horror features and short films from indie filmmakers across the globe.

The festival’s feature film presentations boast a diverse selection of premieres, headlined by the UK premiere of Sigil, directed by Jacob Perrett. This indie darling, starring Karlee Mihailov and Isabella Rodriguez, has been making waves on the festival circuit and is eagerly awaited by horror lovers.

Adding to the excitement is the Essex premiere of Haunted Ulster Live, a festival hit from writer/director Dominic O’Neill. Featuring performances by Aimee Richardson, Mark Claney, and Siobhan Kelly, the film promises to deliver a chilling experience rooted in the supernatural lore of Northern Ireland.

Another UK premiere gracing the festival is The Buildout, a mesmerising feature from writer/director Zeshaan Younus. Starring Black Sunday favourite Jenna Kanell alongside Hannah Alline, the film has garnered significant attention for its unique storytelling and atmospheric tension.

Fans of analog horror are in for a treat with the Essex premiere of Custom, directed by cult filmmaker Tiago Teixeira. Starring Abigail Hardingham, Rowan Polonski, Brad Moore, and Samantha Steel, Custom is set to captivate audiences with its eerie narrative and retro aesthetic.

In addition to the stellar feature line-up, the Black Sunday Film Festival will showcase eight remarkable short films. Highlights include Black Samphire by Alexander Vanegas-Sus and Cathy Wippell, Cakes! from Johnny Herbin, Cassandra by Paula Granato, Dead End from Dima Barch, Hallowed by Olivia J Loader, Have a Good Day from Lisa Soper, and Les Betes by Michael Granberry.

As is tradition, the Midsummer Scream will conclude with the highly anticipated Cult Film Secret Screening. Details of the screening remain under wraps, but organisers promise a rare and unforgettable big-screen experience that festival-goers won’t want to miss.

Following the day’s screenings, the festival will continue its celebrations at the Voodoo Keller, a local hotspot known for its vibrant atmosphere. The Black Sunday Afterparty will welcome filmmakers and guests from 10pm until late, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and socialising within the indie film community.

Full day passes are now on sale, offering access to every film in the line-up and admission to the afterparty. A limited number of single tickets for individual film blocks are also available.
