Shark Horror ‘The Last Breath’ to Hit Theatres and Digital Platforms This July

The Last Breath 2024

Get ready to take a deep dive into terror with The Last Breath, the latest shark-infested horror film from acclaimed Swedish director Joachim Hedén. RLJE Films has just released the official trailer for this white-knuckle thriller, set to debut in select US theatres and on VOD on July 26, 2024, and 1st July in the UK and Ireland.

The Last Breath tells the harrowing tale of a group of divers who find themselves trapped in the wreckage of the USS Charlotte, a WWII battleship lost for 80 years. Their adventure begins with the excitement of a once-in-a-lifetime dive but quickly spirals into a nightmare as they realise they are not alone in the underwater labyrinth. Surrounded by great white sharks and with their air supply dwindling, the group faces a desperate fight for survival.

The narrative centres around Levi, a British expat diver played by the late Julian Sands (A Room with a View), who has dedicated his life to finding the wreck. Alongside him is Noah, a recent US college dropout portrayed by Jack Parr (Masters of the Air). The pair’s discovery is complicated by the arrival of Noah’s college friends, whose enthusiasm for the dive leads them into peril.

Joining Sands and Parr are a talented ensemble including Alexander Arnold (Skins), Kim Spearman (As I Am), Erin Mullen (Midsomer Murders), Maxime Durand (Coming Soon), and Arlo Carter (Doc Martin). Together, they deliver compelling performances that heighten the film’s tension and drama.

Joachim Hedén, known for his underwater thriller Breaking Surface, brings his expertise in crafting high-stakes aquatic scenarios to The Last Breath. The screenplay, penned by Nick Saltrese (A Prayer Before Dawn), promises to deliver a gripping and immersive experience. The film is produced by Andrew Prendergast and Chris Reed.

The official trailer, shared below, showcases the film’s intense and claustrophobic atmosphere. Viewers are given a glimpse of the terrifying underwater scenes and the sharks that menace the trapped divers. The tagline, “I just wanna get out of here!” encapsulates the desperation and fear that permeate the film – something that you will get a taste of when you see it.

Hedén’s previous work, Breaking Surface, won two Swedish Film Awards and was recently remade in English as The Dive. His latest project is expected to build on this success, attracting audiences with its thrilling premise and expert direction. The Last Breath joins a wave of shark-themed films in 2024, including Under Paris, Something in the Water, and No Way Up.
